Need some help. What animal is this tail from? It is in my house

Hi Guys,

I know this is a little out there, but wtf animial has this kind of tail? I recently had a rat in my house over the summer...I know...wtf. But I don't think this is from a rat. I've been setting glue boards all over the fugging house and this morning I found this tail in one of the glue boards. It seems whatever it is chewed its tail off to get free. So I'm wondering wtf this animal is.

I'm located in RI. I have a thought, but I think I'm reaching with it. So, if anyone cares to venture a guess or has some knowledge, it would be helpful and appreciated. I'm going out of my mind with this thing. It's been eating holes in the walls, it ate through a flexible metal dryer vent pipe...wires...paneling.

It's skeavy and pissing me off.

thanks, here is a link:

Guessing a rat, though could be a small possum as well.

Thanks Fletch, that's funny, but I am seriously having some f**ed up creature problem.

Possum ?

phypon 10-25-2005 04:06 PM

ASM,

I at first thought rat, but the tail seems too hairy and thick, although, maybe a norway rat, which are bigger. I've also thought small opposum and possibly a weasel...

u-Bob 10-25-2005 04:07 PM

doesn't really look like a rat tail....

aflex 10-25-2005 04:07 PM

call one of them pest exterminators.. fuck that

smack 10-25-2005 04:07 PM

looks to me like a baby possum. the scale pattern on the tail makes me think that.

phypon 10-25-2005 04:11 PM

Man, I hope it's not an opossum. Look at the fugging pics at this site:

I don't think it is an opossum tail. It looks too hariy and dark?

CrazyNakedChick 10-25-2005 04:25 PM

Looks like a young muskrat tale, possibly.

sunshynevideo 10-25-2005 04:27 PM

I'm not sure what it is but it might be time to let whatever animal it is have the house if they are tough enuff to chew thier own tail off.... Yup thats right Just give the house! Thats the thing to do!

phypon 10-25-2005 04:40 PM

sunshynevideo,

That's funny because I came very close to tearing down some walls in the house because of this thing. I know it's in the walls. My girlfriend wants to redo the bathroom and in a small frustrated rage I came very close to removing the wall sheathing to get at this thing.

I then decided it was a bad idea, because now I have his path of travel. I guess outside of calling an exterminator, all I can do is pepper the place with glue traps. I bought 18 today. It was funny at the hardware store too. The guy was like, "these things smell good. they smell sweet" (talking about the glue boards. And he's right, they actually do) When I was leaving (young kid, too) he's like, "good luck with...whatever problem you're having...you certainly look like you have a problem..." I laughed pretty hard when I left.

mastamindz 10-25-2005 06:40 PM

Thats fucked up bro. You have some creepy animal with no tail fucking with your shit! He might be carrying some kinda disease. You should buy a few cats.

Babagirls 10-25-2005 06:41 PM

WHO CARES??? call the fuckin extermiator & stay at a HOJO till your place is rodent free :Oh crap

phypon 10-25-2005 07:26 PM

Mastamindz,

I actually did that over the summer when had the previous rat. I put a friends cat in the basement and the fucking cat managed to find it's way to a crawl space under the addition of the house. It smelled like piss out there until we bleached it. The only think the cat caught was a normal field mouse. We had to use a live trap to get the cat out. I'm telling ya, all this rodent shit is killing me.

First one rat out of no where, and now this thing. It's also pretty unusal around here for this to happen. It seems to coincide with the puppy we got a few months ago so we took precautions and now keep all dog food in sealed containers in case that is what is drawing them. Also, as an aside to antonio, the dog we got is a Rhodesian Ridgeback which is bred to hunt lions :thumbsup

phypon 10-25-2005 07:29 PM

I'll see what happens over the next night or two after I pepper the floor with the glue traps. I'll post pics of this fucker when I get him :winkwink:

I was going to say the same thing ... the way it's eating through things sounds like a rat ... but the tail looks like a small Possum ... :2 cents:

Spankyspicpost 10-25-2005 08:13 PM

dont think its a possum, look at the darker hair stuck to the glue board..possums arent that dark or at least not around here

SilentKnight 10-25-2005 08:18 PM

We got three cats in a 118 yr-old house with a few mice...and they ain't caught shit in 4 years. Lazy bastards.

Too many reruns of Tom & Jerry, we suspect.

The only thing we found that actually worked to catch`em was those wooden spring traps with the fake plastic cheese (the real cheese and/or peanut butter didn't work).
