Truman Capote: My Review.
Phillip Seymore Hoffman is amazing and likely delivered a performance that will take him to a new level of stardom. He now becomes to the mainstream public what film-lovers already knew: A versatile, well-trained actor that can carry any part, ala, Johnny Depp. He is award worthy.
However, the movie lacked a great deal of "plot and character expansion." The entire movie is based on your assumptions about the plot and character. It never clearly develops into one direction or another. It carries itself with simplicity. The entire movie is about Hoffman's acting, nothing more, nothing less. You potentially could fall asleep, but Hoffman keeps you alive. |
I saw the piece on this film on Henry's corner on IFC.
I liked what I saw of the clip they showed. I would definately see this film. PSH is one of my favorite actors and makes nearly every movie he's in. Back to Boogie Nights, Talented Mr. Roper, Almost Famous, even "along came Polly". He should be huge. I remember very little about Capote from when I was younger, but I'll probably see this one before I research too much. |

I'm a big Philip Seymour Hoffman fan so I will be seeing this movie.
I just watched State and Main the other night ; ) |
Owning Mahoney is also very good. The guy is so under-rated and under-noticed for his talent that it's sad.
|
Hoffman is great, movie is sub-par.
