How long is a 'measure' when you are dealing with music?

I have to do soem sound editing to make a loop but "Loop cannot be over 12 measures in length".

Anyone know what the fuck 12 measures is ?

I think a measure is like 4 beats...but it will depend on your time signature. If it's in 4/4 time, a measure is 4 beats :thumbsup
