They call my Denali "clean"

and they don't mean it just got washed.

Is this some new slang?

Three times now, I've had a guy walk up to my car, etc and say "man this ride is clean". I'm totally lost.. then again.. I'm old.

pornguy 10-24-2005 12:13 PM

Nope I think you are right. Just washed.

tell them that, give them the finger, and drive over thier feet.

JFK 10-24-2005 12:13 PM

Chrome dubs, irridescent paint, custom hand painted pinstriping, and gold emblems.

EroticySteve 10-24-2005 12:16 PM

Did you do sensible custom work to it?

Most people who do custom work to their cars are tasteless. Bad looking rims that don't accentuate any style of the car. Stupid LED windshield sprayers. Headlight covers. Graphics. Window stickers. All of those things are tacky and it wouldn't leave a car looking "clean".

baddog 10-24-2005 12:17 PM

clean = sweet

DatingGold 10-24-2005 12:18 PM

"clean" to me means that it's been wiped for any electronic bugs..

but they don't mean that..

I dont call any of that customizing.

Chopped, decked, nosed, peaked, smoothed, filled, channeled, boxed, frenched, and dropped are terms I would consider using when I think of kustomizing a ride.

MikeyFingaz 10-24-2005 12:50 PM

clean=good

around here people say tight alot... as in that shit is tight... when your tellin someone to fix it up, you would say... tighten that shit up.

abz 10-24-2005 12:51 PM

do u say to them "thanks for the submission dont forget to brush your teeth"

dynastoned 10-24-2005 12:54 PM

yeah its normal out here in cali for people to compliment something of yours by saying its "clean". for instance someone could walk up to you and say "i like your hat thats clean where did you get it?"

understand now? here in california damn near everyone uses slang...

Murderous 10-24-2005 12:56 PM

It used to be that "clean" would mean something along the lines of an older model car that looks like it was built yesterday, some customizing is allowed, but usually the more original the more "clean" it is.

Fact is, that most of society these days do not understand the terms in their originality and try to decipher it in their own ways. This means that "clean" now would mean the total opposite as you have seen expressed by the totally clueless folks that responded to your post.

New paint and shiny chrome... basically something you would consider an original that is in near mint condition. That is "clean".

fuzebox 10-24-2005 12:57 PM

Because so many people nowadays are bolting on so much ugly shit to their cars, when you see a more simple car that actually looks tasteful people call it "clean" to differentiate it from cars with a whole bunch of weird shit done to them.

The Truth Hurts 10-24-2005 12:57 PM

around here, we'd say... "that's a nice truck"..
we're silly like that.

Enderprise 10-24-2005 01:03 PM

Its the new catchphrase thats sweeping the nation. A clean ride implies that it is easy on the eyes at first glance. I'm sure if it was covered in off-road mudding crap you'd get a "Wash this pos comment" from at least 1 person.

Around here, we'd say "You're from out of town, aren't you?" No one tricks out their trucks/SUVs here in the hills :)

Argonaut 10-24-2005 01:29 PM

lets see a picture of it, clean is slang for sharp, as i'm sure many others have mentioned in this post

Mr Pheer 10-24-2005 01:33 PM

I'd tell them to come back when they learn to fucking speak english.

I agree with you. I don't call it customizing either. But if you read any of the boards where kids "customize" their car or should i say "personanize" they'll list "brass screws to hold glove box in place" as a mod or a customization.

Trixxxia 10-24-2005 01:37 PM

Maybe they mean 'smooth' ride? Smooth, clean....I don't know but I'll ask my kid when he gets back :) *damn now I feel old*

SleazyDream 10-24-2005 01:40 PM

i would think ( not knowing) that 'clean' in that context would mean it's flashy and looks expesive and tasteful but not OVERLY flashy - just right for the area showing you got bling without flashing it too much in someone's face.

to put it simply "clean" means "not over modified"

Seems these other cats don't quite get it.

The more original the ride, the more clean it is. Everyone else has it all backwards. It really isn't slang at all.

Furious_Male 10-24-2005 02:21 PM

When I worked in the auto industry clean meant. A solid, mostly stock, low mileage (in the 12-15k a year range), vehicle that would take very little work to resell.

PersianKitty 10-24-2005 06:05 PM

Well these are pics before the pinstriping and the painted to match bug shield went on...
