How important is it to like the looks of a car?

For you to buy it?
I have to start thinking about the replacement for my 03' M3.The M5 would be the logical choice for a number of reasons. But I really am not a huge fan of the styling.

MrIzzz 10-24-2005 10:05 AM

for me its a MAJOR part, but i also cant afford any lambos or mercedes yet :winkwink:

SAM SIYC 10-24-2005 10:07 AM

to me it would be 40% look 60% engine :2 cents:

gangbangjoe 10-24-2005 10:08 AM

i can see no reason why you shouldnt trade the m3 in for the m5 if you got the money to do it.

more power, newer technology, and imo even the look is better

The Gallardo for me was an easy choice.I much preferred the styling of it over the 430 and the Murci.

i always went for the cars people disliked in their styling:

VW Derby
VW Jetta
Audi 80
even the Porsche 968 ....

so: i don't care what others think - i have to like it. and i couldn't buy what i don't like. the M5 would be a good example, always would go for an Audi RS6 instead

:2 cents:

Funny you should mention the Audi RS6.A week ago,I was on a rally with a bunch of exotic cars. And there was one RS6 there.First time I ever really looked at one.The fello was driving it that day because his CGT was in for maintenance. He drives the Audi daily and loves it.

kmanrox 10-24-2005 10:21 AM

it has to get you horny to look at it...

btw - i was driving a 5XX (don't remember) recently - and i hated the interior (cheap, hard plastic) and the idrive. especially the idrive will cause the death of dozens of people imo (cause you can't hardly do anything in that car without looking at the screen instead of the road).

Silver is 'ugly', Silverstone is good, but M5 sapphire or carbon black is dope. you're gonna have a hard time getting it in carbon black hehe.

My M3 is carbon black. It's gorgeous when it's clean. But as a daily driver it's near impossible to keep it clean. This was my first and last black car.

It comes down to why you have the car you've got (financial means aside). If you have it to impress women, you'll want a certain style of car that draws looks and attention. If you want it for business, certain luxury class vehicles take the cake (Mercedes, bmw). If you want it for personal enjoyment, even the old classic cars are often cooler in design and look then many new models.

The way BMW's look is the exact reason why I only drive Mercedes. In my opinion BMW has never really has the looks game down. They were "stylish" for their time but never very pretty and they definitely don't have timeless looks.

Mercedes Benz while it can be sold as cold and void of style as it is by some, always have clean reasonable designs that endure as stylish for decades.

You can get M5 power in the new ML 63 Mercedes Sport Ute.

In my opinion you take the power and handling away from the m5 and you have a $100k piece of shit.

Just a few months ago I was close to making a deal on an E55amg..And as luck would have it there were what I would consider warranty issues on my ML350.The dealer was such an asshole about it,that I walked. And have no plans on going back to them for anything. So now If I really want a MB I have to go 75 miles for one.And i really don't want one that bad.

Depends on the angle, I think from the rear and 3/4 rear the new 5-series looks great. It depends alot on the rims as my brothers 545i looks a million times better than a 525i or a 530i. I think the rear on the new M5 may be a bit excessive, but overall I really like the look. I guess it grows on you and of course choosing the right color definitely helps.

Overall though I like the look of it, I just wish they would finish up the manual version and bring it to the states already. :thumbsup

Depends on the car.

If it's a sportscar, it has to emotionally move me when I look at it and drive it. That's its purpose.

In a passenger car, or sedan, its role is practicality and luxury. I don't give a shit what they look like, because at the end of the day all sedans look relatively similar. None look as good as any G obviously. So in that light, the hideous Bangle BMWs don't keep me from purchasing them, because looks are secondary for that category. Same with SUVs. Select them for their capabilities, not their appearance.

je_rome 10-25-2005 12:42 AM

Just buy the car that you want. Don't give a damn about what other people say about your choice
