omg Australia has the dumbest foreign minister

we have the DUMBEST foreign minister on earth!

Alexander Downer AKA dumb motherfucker had this to say about the aussies stuck in the hurricane affected areas.

"if you are worried about hurricanes - don't go to hurricane areas - don't blame the government"

Fire the moron please!
i'm so embarassed to be an Aussie right now.

Sin 10-24-2005 05:51 AM

LOL

I'd be more interested in what instigated a comment like that one

Fletch XXX 10-24-2005 05:56 AM

and people have been asking for more government support or some such shit....

Basically the guy is a moron and it's been proven time and time again. I'm sure all aussies on gfy will agree - Alexander Downer is a fucktard!

Lee 10-24-2005 06:03 AM

Call me an old traditionalist if you will but that seems like pretty good advice.

Fletch XXX 10-24-2005 06:05 AM

if aussies wouldnt be on walkabouts all over the world at any time they wouldnt get caught in hurricanes. ;)

lisa k 10-24-2005 06:06 AM

Nurgle 10-24-2005 06:11 AM

as much of a moron he is... he is right..

Joe Citizen 10-24-2005 06:15 AM

He is a fucktard, but he is right... if you go to a known hurricane area during hurricane season... and then a hurricane fucks with you... then don't start bitching.

Sin 10-24-2005 06:25 AM

lol @ the walkabout comment

Damian_Maxcash 10-24-2005 06:31 AM

I hate to say it, but the only thing with fewer diplomatic skills than a US politician is an Australian one.

Alough there is this guy in NZ (Winston Peters) that beats all other contenders hands down. He's like NoFx but with even less tact.

BRISK 10-24-2005 06:37 AM

What more would they like the Australian government to do for them? Send a taxpayer funded private jet to rescue them?

PlugRush Sascha 10-24-2005 06:42 AM

I don't see what's so bad about what he said. They did in fact go to an area at risk during hurricane season when they could have gone elsewhere. That is pretty stupid and they shouldn't blame the government or expect any type of help. That doesn't make him a moron. You're gonna have to come up with something better to let us know just why this guy is an idiot, because that comment simply isn't going to suffice.

I'm not going to disagree that he's a retard, because that would be ignorant of me to think someone isn't a moron just because they gave sound advice once, however what you said in this thread is making you look like the idiot between you and Mr. Downer. Re-think what you used to argue your side of, "He's a fucking moron." :2 cents:

flashfreak 10-24-2005 06:53 AM

after all he's telling the truth... this is so rare to politicians, maybe that's why you hate him :D

reynold 10-24-2005 06:54 AM

well he may be dumb to you but to others he must be doing something good.

Vitasoy 10-24-2005 06:58 AM

I bet he wishes he could have took that back.. :error

invertiga 10-24-2005 07:08 AM

depends on context, but i agree, if you put yourself in the situation, well its your fault. as foreign minister i'm sure he has to hear about dumb ass shit every day.... oh no i went to *insert middle eastern country here* to help them and now i've been taken hostage, help me.... i took drugs into a country that has death penalty for possession and for some reason they want to kill me.... bout time some of these idiots learnt about reality.

Ok i'll bite...

You don't see what's so bad about what he said? Ok for starters he's a politician and what is the number one priority of ALL politicians?

I'll give you a little hint - to create a GOOD rapport with their constituants. :2 cents: With what he has said he has basically said "suck shit it's your fault". *If* he had half a brain - he would have made a *more* diplomatic statement - I don't know something like ...we issued travel warnings for blah and blah and would like to remind anyone who is thinking of travelling....you get the idea.

I'm not going to go into every stupid thing that this guy has done - as it would be pointless. But I will say that this is not the first and probably won't be the last time that this idiot opens his mouth to let something blurt out without thinking.

That doesn't make him a dumb shit. Politician are lieing bastards and personally I would much prefer they spoke the truth more often than fed the same bullshit over and over again to the public. It is like a fucking play, you already know what they are going to say, what words they are going to use, how 'sympathetic" *cough* they are going to be before anything comes out. Just speak the fucking truth and tell it how it is. Waaaay too much spin in politics.

bhutocracy 10-24-2005 08:06 AM

foreigners kinda can't comment on this one.. they don't know how embarrassing this dolt is... they think that he's being picked on for this one comment.. he's career politician.. the son of a pollie.. who's legacy is a series of embarrassing fuckups and wearing fishnet stockings... he's also just annoyingly.. i don't know.. lame? i mean politics aside.. theres not even a begrudging respect for a political opponent thing going on like with others on the front bench.. he's just a joke in a safe liberal seat.

bhutocracy 10-24-2005 08:10 AM

He's affectionately known as "down syndrome" Downer.

Antonio 10-24-2005 08:52 AM

don't even start me on dumb politicians, you're not going to win this one:

the SA minister of health: "Got aids? Eat spinach!"

the SA minister of telecommunications: "If my sector is in shambles (in a mess) I'll resign today, tee he he he...." - In SA 30 Gig 512 ADSL costs $360.00 a month

the SA minister of sport: "I know nothing about sport but I know everyting about the ANC's (the ruling party) policy..."

Sounds like we've found Alexander Downers mentor!

It does seem like just common sense, If you don't like fires don't become a fireman. Although, I would like to see the transcript of why he said that and what contexed it was used in.

OzMan 10-24-2005 10:40 AM

You can't compare travelling to a hurricane prone area during hurricane season with something like taking a two week vacation to Iraq or some other area where there is civil unrest or common violence against foreigners. There are no travel advisories advising against areas of possible future natural disasters.

He might as well tell Aussie tourists if they get mugged in NYC it's their own fault or don't leave your hotel whatever country you are visiting as something bad might happen.

Now I don't know the full story. The Australian government has a duty to offer whatever support is necessary to it's citizens abroad. If the people stuck there were being too extravagent in their demands then that is different but still didn't deserve that comment.
