Taxi's are a rip off!
 

Last night I took a taxi ride home after being at a club/bar downtown. The bar was exactly 20 miles away from my house; I know this because I've measured it before. I also knew that the typical taxi with the company I use gets about 20 miles per gallon, when all is said and done. The price of gas at the station near my house yesterday was $2.73 per gallon. Knowing all of this, I had figured I could get a taxi ride home for under $3.00. The gas was only $2.73, I don't see why it would cost me much more.

Once home the taxi driver told me I owed him $25. I was appalled. He wanted $25 for a trip that only cost him $2.73?! Absurd! I'm never dealing with that taxi company again.

$25? Thats it? A 40 mile ride from jfk to 43rd st now costs $100.

i would say on most products people sell in any form that cst $25 , prob cost about 2.50 in real cost

I don't understand. Why should I have to pay for any of those?! Gas only costs $2.73, I should only be paying that much. I'm a good customer that never causes problems and I didn't even throw-up!

You figure its $0.20 per ever 1/5 mile. Then the $2 that is already clocked when he gets there, and the cost that is charged when the taxi is at stop. I think you got off cheap.

Dude, you pay for SERVICE. Same thing with Mcdonalds, a bag of 2lbs of potatoes cost like 1$, but they charge you 1$ only for a small hanfull portion. Wake up, its a COMPANY looking for profit. Microsoft sell Windows XP for 300$, but the CD probably doesnt even cost them 1cent. With the taxi, you had no other option of getting home, so he charges you for the service he gives you.
