[Dutch webmasters] Huge anti-porn article in de Volkskrant

In today's de Volkskrant (a large left-wing Dutch newspaper) there's a huge article against porn in het Betoog (the opinion section of the newspaper). It features tons of inaccuracies and many outright lies, and portrays the online porn industry as one which for the most part consists of sexual slavery, snuff, actual rape and kiddy porn. The actual position being argumented in the article is that all "extreme porn" should be outlawed.

This article is extremely damaging to the image of the adult industry in the Netherlands, and may well cause a few opportunistic politicians to take up his initiative.

So here's my call to all Dutch webmasters: please write a letter or email to de Volkskrant pointing out the gross inaccuracies and lies in the article. The more, the better. Hopefully, a few will get published and repair a minor part of the damage done by this idiotic article.

No scanner here, alas.

adultguus 10-22-2005 07:34 AM

I don't have the Volkskrant, but I surely want to read the article and send them a reaction. Can someone of the Dutchies scan the article and post it?

Fletch XXX 10-22-2005 07:34 AM

vote with bullets

Libertine 10-22-2005 08:32 AM

Weppel 10-22-2005 08:43 AM

A scan would be nice..

UltraSonic 10-22-2005 08:44 AM

looked all around volkskrant.nl, couldn't find it.

Doctor Dre 10-22-2005 09:02 AM

I love it when a journalist start talking out of his ass about something he don't know.

Libertine 10-22-2005 09:05 AM

Here are some nice quotes from the article (which is titled, by the way: "Extreme porno is een misdaad"):

I have to read the whole article to judge about this but if theyre talking about mainstream porn and mixing it with this then theyre the biggest idiots.

Dirty F 10-22-2005 09:40 AM

Ik ga het zo kopen.

Kinky John 10-22-2005 09:45 AM

I will check it out . . the vibes are very confusing in europe right now

He doesn't make a clear distinction, and in fact makes it seem as if almost all porn is rape/slavery/kiddy porn, or at least as if the porn industry doesn't care about the difference.

ServerGenius 10-22-2005 11:01 AM

cool article...the worse they write the more people that want to check it out
....such article will not change anything... I suggest if you want to write a letter
to this paper....write them a letter to thank them because of the big increase in
sales this article has meant to your sales....then ask them for advertising rates.

this will have a lot more impact than accusing them for their lies....as that's
actually what they want....

:2 cents:

I'm sorry, but you're completely wrong.

It's good for sales if a particular site is accused of something like "immorality", yes. However, when the industry as a whole is associated with rape, slavery and child porn, that is extremely dangerous.

Dirty F 10-22-2005 12:46 PM

God, the guy who wrote that is totally clueless. Some of the things he said are simply amazing. Talking about snuff and child porn on well known sites. Total bullshit. He acts like most of use force women with guns to do fisting video's.
One word: Unbelievable!!

Marie 10-22-2005 01:00 PM

I have to read the story before really forming an opinion on it, but isn't it the latest trend to humiliate women in porn? Am I wrong? Gagging, writing "slut, whore, bitch, etc" on girls, spitting them in the face, etc, etc, etc.

He clearly hasn't done enough research, but this is the way porn is seen by surfers and that is perfectly understandable.

CP is CP btw and always 100% wrong. This guy just read the newspapers lately (women forced to have sex with animals, large CP network caught) and started to surf a bit to extend his "research". And I can't blame him for forming this opinion.

Anyway, lemme read that article now :)

Humiliating is one thing but he acts like most women are FORCED into this. This simple is not true.

My post was ironic....towards your "paranoid" reaction on how we should start
a protest letter campaign towards this newspaper.

We live in Free country....people are free to write...and free to lie. Laws are not
formed based on articles written by ignorant journalist in our country. It might raise some questions
and maybe some people start todo some research....that will lead to the
conclusion that in general the porn business isn't nearly as bad as he portraits.

That's right. He just talks about two different subjects and thinks that it is possible to put the two together. Which is obviously not the fact. I have read the article now, it is one of the worst that I have ever read in De Volkskrant.

Anyway, what he says about dumb surfers is also what I believe is true: they might pick, what I call humiliating porn, up as normal and bring it to real life. Bad example maybe, but what about that soccer player.... whats his name... van Persie. That is, in my eyes, a classic "reality porn" story.

I am one of the few in this biz that is against porn that handles girls that cry, puke, pretend to be shocked b/c of what is happening to them. But like i said, one of the few. I love this discussion, I hate it that it is in a "dutch" subject.

Write a letter to the editor taking each lie and exposing it.

Dirty F 10-22-2005 05:58 PM

I wrote a letter just now.

Dirty F 10-22-2005 06:00 PM

Like Marie said, hes mixing 2 things. He tries to write about extreme/illegal porn but makes it sound like all porn on the net is like this and were all rapists and even murderers.
He's using the words snuff and cp like its the most normal thing to see when you open a random porn site.

Dirty F 10-22-2005 06:00 PM

I just read that he wrote a book about it as well. Well, someone as clueless as him, that book has to be the worst shit ever.

Dirty F 10-22-2005 06:02 PM

http://www.civismundi.nl/De_makers/b..._bodelier.html

here's a pic of the clown. "journalist and writer". God...what a joke.

Marie 10-23-2005 01:42 AM

That scares me 100%: means that people that know SHIT about a subject can be arrogant enough to write a book about it - and people (as well as respected newspapers) believe and quote what is in it too. Ok, I'm off, gotta start writing a book.
Any suggestions for a subject? I can write about ANYTHING.

grumpy 10-23-2005 02:51 AM

somebody please scan that article and put it online.

I'm going to talk to the "adjunct directeur" about this, should be fun

We live in a free country, but free speech only works if people actually do speak up. Let's face it, most people don't do their own research but rather simply believe what the newspapers and television say. I made this thread exactly because we have free speech and we should use it to expose lies.

You may think that laws aren't based on stupid articles like this one, but remember that stupid articles like this one shape public opinion if they aren't refuted, and it is public opinion that shapes politics and thereby, implicitly, all legislation.

Kinky John 10-23-2005 07:36 AM

Scandal, Sex, Shock, Horror . . newspapers eat it up !

Todays news, tomorrows garbage.

Actually, that particular point has been argued many times, but nobody has succeeded in proving it to be true yet. It's analogous to the idea that action movies and computer games cause violence, which is argued just as often and is equally unfounded by research.

Bodelier acknowledges that though, in his article, when he calls that particular argument "weak". The large chunk of his article he dedicates to it is therefore little more than demagogy.

Interesting is that even though he considers the argument to be "weak", it is the only real argument he has for outlawing extreme porn specifically. After all, sexual slavery, child porn, physical threats, snuff, etc. are all illegal already, so that would not require additional legislation. He fails to make any real connection between extreme porn and those things, so there is no other rational "why" behind his position that extreme porn should be illegal than the argument he himself does not accept.
