How do you find out whether a domain's been banned by SE's before buying it?

no way to know for sure ( other than existing serp )

a site can still show up on google , but be penalized

on yahoo penalized sites show up , but it will only index one file from your server ( like index.html it usually shows 2 listings for the same file)

do a whois on whois.sc.
it may show up for blacklist for spamming or something like that.

1 of my blog's went from pr 2 to pr 4 tonight, its getting 0 google traffic though, hopefully thats about to change
