I am shocked that those were the first 100 domains developped or even purchased for that matter. There seems to be so many better things they could have chosen at that point LoL

I think it was scientific in the beginning commerce came in later.

Are those just trademark dates? Many big companies backdated their registrations many years to protect their asses.

I registered "disco.com" back in 1977, but let it drop after disco went out of style.

Bill Gates thought the internet wasnt going to go anywhere thats why it took so long to come out with the first version of IE. Read a book by this Microsoft guy who was there from the beginning.

Advertising was seriously frowned on in the beginning of the web. Porn on the "net" started as BBS. Those were the days of modems and you downloaded a single picture at at time.

OMG that's funny I was barely in elementary school when those domains were bought.

Again they were not really "bought".
The 70.00 renewal and registration fee did not come around for much longer.
(holding back a lil vomit in my throat, my first domain was free)
