Windows easter egg? Try it yourself...

An Indian discovered that nobody can create a folder anywhere named as "con".

This is something pretty cool... and unbelievable... At Microsoft the whole team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened.

Try it out yourself...
Well, it's true here. Any ideas? :winkwink:

MindyBlingBucks 10-18-2005 07:04 AM

I couldn't make one either. Wonder why that is.

Quagmire 10-18-2005 07:08 AM

con is short for "console" for output purposes. it would likely cause conflicts, so they disallowed it for file folder naming.

wdforty 10-18-2005 07:09 AM

Wow, that's weird. Nice find.

StuartD 10-18-2005 07:11 AM

convicts will never have a good place to keep their con files :(

Tom_PM 10-18-2005 07:22 AM

Ah the good old days of "copy con dosomething.bat"

u-Bob 10-18-2005 07:38 AM

old, old, old... ancient.

tons of advisories have been published about this... going way back to 1999.

Fucksakes 10-18-2005 08:23 AM

Manowar 10-18-2005 08:24 AM
