Going to Rio de Janeiro - Any advice
 

Ok, we have finally found our next trip! We decided to go to Rio for Carnival time. Leaving Feb 19th returning Feb 27th.. Any advice? I been looking thru Ipanema.com for Hotels, but really don't know where to stay. Anybody ever been?

Were not much for the beach, I obviously would like to see the Samba School so I am buying tickets for that, go clubbing, seeing the area. Doing tourist stuff.

I need to have everything booked by November 2nd, so I really would like to hear from you all. I still haven't booked a hotel. I was thinking about the Gloria in the downtown (Centro) area..

gloria is a real good Hotel, go there and you will have a nice time, for sure! The only advice I have to you is: come to são paulo, or bahia, or somewere else for one or two days. Theres much more in brazil to visit than rio! Hit me up at ICQ if you want to talk about it, thankz! ;)

why do people go to Rio for Carnival?
there are lots of better places to go then Rio...

One advice: be carefull with the sea, respect it a lot. I had a bad experience there a few years ago.

whenever possible, tell the locals "Deus e Paulista!" ... they like that in Rio :thumbsup

Jealous...the more cinema I watch from that part of the world the more I am curious to visit.

I heard the carnivals out there are simple amazing! Enjoy man..

Sorry I can't give you enough hints... I was there on new year's eve 2003, but that's about it. I had no problems, just be a wise tourist and you'll have no problems. ;)

I had a room mate that used to go every year. Buy a cheap watch to wear no jewelry ,dont flash cash.

I recommend a boat tour on the Guanabara Bay (departure and arrival: Marina da Gloria)
