What do you tip?

I tip 40%-100%+ depemding.

Pays off in the long run too i see. but then i've never worked for tips. Just find it fun to tip.

you?

LiveDose 10-14-2005 11:54 PM

I used to be like that too (not quite that high but...). Nowadays service can be so shitty that I decide case by case,,,

Tango 10-14-2005 11:55 PM

40% to 100% - is pretty much too much imoh

for me:
usually 15-20%
30% if really damn good

Ok. But i do like paying for 2 drinks when i bought 6.

Walrus 10-14-2005 11:55 PM

When I eat by myself at a restaurant I tip $2.50-$3.00. Cost of food is usually about $9-$10. I'll give $4 bucks if the waitress was absolutely outstanding.

Noir 10-14-2005 11:59 PM

Just curious.

oh, if you don't tip high, tip with $2 dollar bills. trick. People remember you for years if so.

I've never worked for tips, so i like to tip big. but the $2 trick works. They remember you for years.

I used to always give $4 or $5 bucks. But then I realized that was much too high for a single person. I realized that after I worked at Denny's. It was common for families to leave just $3 bucks. I think for a single person $2.50-$3.00 is generous especially if you frequent the same restaurant like I do. That $2 dollar tricks sounds good, but where do you get the $2 dollar bills? Will Banks give you them?

2HousePlague 10-15-2005 12:07 AM

Karma and practicality converge nicely in the case of a small check. If the check is $5 and I give the server a $10, it has such a greater effect than the same tip amount on a larger bill -- mostly for being unexpected. You'll get a smile, and -- if you should ever return to the establishment, you'll be remebered. As a rule I would say that I hugely overtip on small bills and tip "very well" (>20%) the rest of the time. Most people tip badly. As a result, most servers are pessimistic, but I would have to give the server $100 bill at 8PM to get the kind of reaction I can get with a $10 at noon -- :)

yep. ask your bank for then. Really, people remember you.

adultchica 10-15-2005 12:08 AM

I usually tip 20 percent. The only restaurant chain that has been ultra good with service has been Red Lobster :-)...they get 25-30 percent.

True. but I like to tip.

When I buy coffee, i expect 10$ for the drink. if it turns out to be 4$, hey, next time I show up, i get special treatment. I also hope the money spreads on. nice, but hey....I like stimulating the economy.

bringer 10-15-2005 12:15 AM

if someone does their job well i tip. why people think they somehow deserve a tip for doing their job is beyond me.

Part of why i like tipping a lot.

Besides getting discounfs.

Noir 10-15-2005 12:22 AM

As I see it. Tipping ok, = no semen and spit etc in food. Never fuck with food servers.

Kassidy 10-15-2005 12:42 AM

I waited tables and bartended in college and anything around 15-20% is expected for good service. Anything more and you'll be remembered and you'll always get good service in the future. Anything less and you'll still be remembered, but for being a cheap ass.

And for the LOVE OF MIKE never leave a shitty tip then asked the waitress for her phone number. Cheap is NOT sexy. I was always amazed at how many guys thought that was ok....

woj 10-15-2005 01:10 AM

Usually around ~20%...

I've dated many girls who worked for tips, so I know how important it is to them. I feel the same way you do - I've got it, why not share? I'm a 20-40% guy.

Plus it sure does seem that the the more I give, the more I get. A lot of cheap fucks will never realize that.

OG LennyT 10-15-2005 01:33 AM

20-30%.. waitresses remember me for giving a few bucks more. Fuck it, I get comps all the time from Macayos cause the waitresses know me.. Karma.. dont be a cheap fuck

tonyluvbmw 10-15-2005 01:56 AM

cheap people shouldn't go out to eat at a restaurant in the first place. they should go to in and out or something

Vitasoy 10-15-2005 02:07 AM

Any where from 15%-30% depending on the service

Corleone 10-15-2005 02:16 AM

depends on the service..

but 10-20 % is ok

$26 -> give $30 and its ok

and no tips if they suck

The only problem with that notion is that some people blame the server for something out of their control. Like if the food was a little late. It may be because the restaruant was busy or their short on staff.

gecko 10-15-2005 02:54 AM

10%-20% on average

KRL 10-15-2005 03:53 AM

30% if service is exceptional.

25% if service is beyond great.

20% for great service. (my usual tip)

15% if service is not good but tolerable and not the waiters fault.

10% if service is bad and the waiters fault.

$1 if service is atrocious or the waiter is extremely rude or has an attitude.

$0 if service is so bad the waiter is totally ignoring his job and forgets about you.

poorwebmaster 10-15-2005 03:59 AM

20 - 25 %

assmunk 10-15-2005 04:09 AM

from me they get 20-25% by default. if the service is good i'll go way over that(depending on my satisfaction), if the service sucked i'll tip low, maybe they'll realize they should do their job better(which they probably won't, but i hate being served by someone who acts like he's doing me a favor....)

u-Bob 10-15-2005 04:21 AM

I don't tip.

amandaspost 10-15-2005 09:36 AM

15-20% usually

DesignWise 10-15-2005 09:39 AM

10% for me or nothing at all...

kmanrox 10-15-2005 09:43 AM

in the USA i tip 20%, sometimes more if the service was above average... in thailand i they take 10% for a service fee, but i usually tip a couple bux on top of it... just because im not sure if the waiters see much of that service fee or if the restaurant takes a portion...
