What is the best software around for editing movies?

Final Cut Pro is the best, but you have to ask that question then you probably don't need the best...

Assumption correct. At least for Avid, and FinalCut, and Premiere, haven't personally worked on Vegas, so i will refrain from comment.

All we have to do is convert a 7min 1.5gig avi into WMV and keep it "widescreen".

Maybe we should stick to selling traffic and leave the video editing alone LOL

but it will take you a year to learn it.. vegas for video is my suggestion

Get yourself a mac and a copy of FCP, or if you're just going to do simple stuff just use iMovie HD.
