Hotel bans kids, allows dogs

Hotel bans kids, allows dogs

A top hotel in an upmarket Austrian resorts has slapped a ban on young children - but is still letting in dogs.

Hotel Cortisen owner Roland Ballner, 38, said the children were always badly behaved and invariably more trouble than they were worth.

He claimed bookings had flooded in since he promised to kick out kids under the age of 12 from May next year.

But he added that dogs would still be allowed as they were far better trained and didnt vandalise his hotel like children did.

His property is in one of the best locations on the St. Wolfgang, near Gmunden, on the Wolfgangsee lake.

He said: "My guests have a right to quiet and relaxation without the noise of children.

"In most cases where they are badly behaved though the parents are to blame, they seem to feel they are here to relax and wash their hands of their children's bad behaviour."

Ballner said he had invested 2.5 million euros in his hotel and he could not tolerate "children drawing with felt-tipped pens on white leather couches" and other vandalism.

Kids are destructive. Dogs are too but not as much.

HammerALL 10-14-2005 08:33 AM

It makes sense - if you are taking the time to Travel with your dog - there is a good chance that you have trained it -

any asshole can have kids under their care, but the barrier to entry for domesticated "pets" shakes a lot of the losers out when the real care starts

chewing, feces, dog vomit, getting loose and running, disobediance etc

u-Bob 10-14-2005 08:36 AM

good idea!

HarrytheNazi 10-14-2005 09:15 AM

...what if I keep my kid on a leash?

His hotel he can do what he wants. Sounds like a good idea if he has a decent flow of clients now that are happy with it.

I am of the belief that a business should be able to set its rules as it wishes. However, I think its pretty silly to ask "nice restaurants" to ban children due to a few bad parents. Kids acting up? Kick out the family. Simple solution while still allowing people to bring their children. Its important for kids to know when they are supposed to act proper, if they aren't given the opportunity to learn, they'll always be brats.

I recall a restaurant here in Seattle that has a children ban. To bad the food sorta sucks, so I never went back. But banning children from more places should become regular.

Scott McD 10-14-2005 01:40 PM

Quite right !!!! :thumbsup
