Is there a beer more rich and wholesome than THIS?(pic). I doubt it.

I'm enjoying some of this right now as a chaser to some Canadian Whiskey and this beer has me all warm and fuzzy inside. It's definitely an acquired taste and if my friends in college weren't drinking it, I'd now think that this beer was disgusting...But once you acquire the taste, nothing beats it.

Guinness is a nice "body tonic" for you. Especially if you wash a Zinc tablet down with it....I could fuck like a madman right now because Guiness helps get you "Up".

Where is there a better beer than Guinness Stout?

gangbangjoe 10-13-2005 10:11 AM

Tried extra stout? Probably pretty similar, but I have never seen the special export... Time to hunt

DutchTeenCash 10-13-2005 10:14 AM

guiness is nice, I like the weird cans with the plastic ball inside to get that creamy foam there.

Niceeeeee!!!!! Def. a big extra stout fan... From my personal experience, make friends with your beer guy, find out when they stock. Extra stout is a very unpopular drink unfortunately, so it gets ordered very infrequently for restocking.

Grab from the back to avoid skunky beer. :2 cents:

smack 10-13-2005 10:29 AM

I had to drink it warm in Nigeria while sitting in 90 degree heat. I'll never drink it warm again. I drink mine straight out of the freezer.

TheMob 10-13-2005 11:00 AM

try San Francisco's own Anchor Steam.

That's beer.

Sosa 10-13-2005 11:14 AM

I didn't like it

Robx 10-13-2005 11:18 AM

Try some Rogue Chocolate Stout.. and if you're a big stout lover splurge for the Imperial Stout. Definitely let it warm up a bit.

EroticySteve 10-13-2005 12:05 PM

Arguing about what beer is best is like running in the special olympics. Even if you win you're still retarded. :)

nicely put, I love that beer as well.

Kassidy 10-13-2005 01:58 PM

Guinness is actually very good for you as far as beer goes, low in alcohol and high in iron.

Go to Ireland, get one from "tap" - it's like a milkshake [so they say]

gornyhuy 10-13-2005 02:43 PM

Its better from the tap, and poured just right with a clover drawn in the head...

But amen brotha.

Guinness is GREAT, but I prefer Kilkenny :)
The same factory...
Just one thing, keep it cold... very cold...

Kassidy 10-13-2005 03:48 PM

Actually, beer of that type is meant to be served closer to room temperature. Chilling it kills some of the subtle undertones....kinda like red wine.

CherryLipsRosa 10-13-2005 03:56 PM

I don't like dark beer i rather drink a light one.

Hollywood Horwitz 10-13-2005 04:02 PM

Molsen Dry -- 5.5 % alcohol, dry-brewed flavor, bold yet easy-drinking taste with no aftertaste. It goes down gooood.

Serve it ice cold, preferably with hot female friends, none of this "best served warm" crap.

Btw, after the real beer is removed from the vats, stout is the sludge that's left in the bottom. Yes, let's all raise a glass of warm sludge. :D

Paraskass 10-13-2005 09:27 PM

i love my Hoegaarden.

jayeff 10-13-2005 09:35 PM

A couple of hints about Guinness from someone who has been drinking it for almost 40 years...

The original bottled Guinness is naturally more bitter than the draught (regardless of whether the "draught" comes out of bottles, cans, or is actually on tap). A taste for draught Guinness is therefore easier to acquire and it very unusual to find someone who likes both draught and original.

If you do buy draught Guinness (the most commonly available kind in the US) in cans or bottles, always pour it into a glass so that it can develop its head (the foam on top). It doesn't taste right otherwise. Be sure to pour it out gently with the glass held at an angle so that you don't get more than about a half-inch of foam.

When you find a bar with draught Guinness on tap, if it isn't well run they may not clean out their pipes often enough. That doesn't really affect the taste too much, but it does make the beer foam excessively and slow to serve. Guinness is a premium price, so if you get a glass with lots of bubbles still rising through the beer, let it settle down and ask for it to be topped off if the head is too thick.

The original bottled Guinness can go sour in as little as a couple of weeks, so it's a bad idea to buy it from anywhere which you suspect may not have a reasonable turnover. Don't store it too long at home.

For a special treat, try "Black Velvet": half-and-half Guinness and champagne (traditionally served in silver tankards). The poor man's version (also usually sweeter) is to replace the champagne with sparkling wine or even sparkling cider.

Wrong on three counts...

1. Marmite (british) and Vegemite (australian) are two products based on yeast extract, a by-product of the brewing industry (ie what you refer to as the "sludge").

2. Stout is brewed much like any other beer, using broadly the same ingredients. The main reason for the difference in color and flavor is that the barley is roasted before being used in the brew.

3. Traditionally brewed beers (which all still were during WW2 when US troops stationed in Britain began the stories about warm beer there), are naturally carbonated and most taste best when only lightly chilled (such as they would be if the barrels were stored in a cellar). Unlike modern-style brews aided by the addition of chemicals and other technology, "real ales" do not need the addition of carbon dioxide when served and most would have their taste killed by excessive cooling.

If cold matters more than flavor, don't worry. For the past 50 years the majority of beer sold in Britain is served just like beer in the US and for the same reason: so that you cannot taste just how awful most of it is.
