Hosting Question?
What is the most important things that you look for in a host? We are opening our doors by the end of next week. We'll be offering some pretty cheap transfer rates... jw on what you guys look for in a host.
|
uptime and good customer support
|
looking for someone who actually can touch their servers if you have problems..in other words not someone reselling someone elses services. These types of hosts usually have 100X's better service and uptime...much better than johnny host who has a reseller account with his local reseller who is reselling also.
|
roflz... I feel ya man.., well we have a couple boxes, on some fast ass lines. So ya I know wutcha mean.
|
redirecting under 5% of the traffic to your sponsor.
Anything over 5% is unacceptable. |
we redirect 5.01 sry dude
|
Support, support and lastly support.
I also like no lies, if someone spilled pepsi on a switch thats fine just tell me. One host told me all verio lines were down, then when quiet when I showed him it was not true. |

hit me up on either icq or aim - lets talk some biz |
good customer support 24/7 over IRC and free IPs are the first...
about prices it ALL depends on what do you plan to host. For TGP galleries you go with the cheapest shit and customer support is not all that important. For everything else you look for a bit more expensive per gig hosting but a VERY reliable and with EXCELLENT customer support. -- McSpike -- |
Now this is something I can offer thoughts on lets see
when you call support you Dont get a message "this line has been disconnected" when you cancel you account you dont have to charge the company with credit card fraud to get them to quit charging you when they send you a billing notice it contains a link to a real working url when you sign up for an account they dont upgrade you to a more expensive package for excessive bandwith use for uploading the index page when you send in a support ticket you dont spend a week emailing auto responders when you check your stats you dont find that the host is hotlinking you chat script for their own use when you put up sponsor links they dont misterisously change to the hosts sponsor links codes Brian |
that lost is pretty bad ;/

A host that doesnt sound like a 15 year old kid |
Pipecrew,
Just what I thought ;-) |
And if I was? Your just jealous cause you didn't start computing as early as I did. O wait, your how old? They didn't have computers back then... sorry.
|
I think that sound was the sound of someone shooting themselves in the foot. :)
Ouch. -Phil |

How old are you really? my god, who replies like a little bitch? Its reasons like this, I dont think anyone would use you.. You are obviously just some reseller.. I pay 3000 a month for hosting and I am sure most of the guys on the board pay close to that or 5 times more. the fact that you think you can come on this board, thinking you relate to us (talking like some wigged out wannabe adulthost) really doesnt impress anyone.. I wish you the best of luck, because you are destine to fail intill you grow up |
Sorry for striking a nerve. But who are you to tell me my "destiny", no hard feelings man. Exactly who gives you the right to criticize my writing.. I asked a simple question, yet you reply with some bullshit, that did no one anygood on this board. I'm proud of you that you pay 3,000 a month on your hosting bill. If you want you can go ahead and drop your address along the board, and I'll be happy to send you one of my mothers chocolate chip cookies. If not thats ok, I'll give them to someone else. To answer your question I'm 19... now if you don't have anything nice to say, that does not relate to my first post. Don't post it please. Thanx Alot
|
There are guys in the hosting business that have over 15 years experience alone dealing with computers and computer related problems..
If you are 19... You are probably hosting off your own windows machine on your moms Rogers @home connection..... Grow a clue and post here in a 5 or 6 years I'd gladly take your moms 'cookie' |
What's your address?
And yes I'm hosting off my @home connection, on my dad's computer. By the way, didn't I say not to post, if it didn't relate to my first post? Damn, you forget your bifocals? sorry dad, butwho are you to say knowing about the hosting business. I believe all you are doing is buying from someone not selling. |

Age isn't the problem, I've seen 16 year olds who can do this shit better than anyone else I know (and I know more than a couple).
Maturity and respect does matter, however. And how you portray yourself in public is fairly indicitive as to how you are going to treat your customers and run your business. Just food for thought, everyone learns this lesson sooner or later I suppose. It's just some appear to need to stick their foot in their mouth multiple times in the process. Ramm, stop being a little prick and actually listen to these guys. They ARE your future customers, and they will pay your uplink bills and put food on your plate. Treat them like gold, and their sites like fucking platinum and you'll be very well off. Start spouting the arrogant prick teenager attitude you're doing now, and you won't amount to shit. Oh well, some people learn their lessons the hard way. :) -Phil |
PipeCrew, you guys run bangbus.com? One of my customers bangedup.com promotes that site and makes a lot of money from it. I checked it out, pretty cool site.

Now... in the name of the thread.... Are we talking shared or dedicated hosting? And if it's dedicated, is it managed / unmanaged? |
