Does CC Bill email "our" Members?

Hello,

Just curious if any of you know if CC Bill emails your members "newsletters" or anything after they join your site? Just something I was thinking about earlier, and I looked but couldnt find anythin on it, so I thought I'd ask some of the vets here.

Currently we email your members when they join and when they cancel, unless they specifically ask us for something that requires an email response.

We don't call them up, send snail mail, or go to their office to talk to them either.

A "certain" company probably does not spam your members...

They "probably" sell the members database to some big company and share the profits.

payrollpete 03-05-2002 12:11 PM

I think it would be legal for that "Company" to do so as well...

Seeing as how it does not say in your terms of service with that "company" that they will not resell your members info to a third party...

Just think, that would be worth millions upon millions of dollars, and we all know how greed ruins this business.

hehe

just my 2 cents

Fletch XXX 03-05-2002 12:24 PM

I wonder what would be worse, the "company" emailing your members once a month or them selling the member database?

Hooper 03-05-2002 12:30 PM

I'm fairly confident that they do not sell their members database.

TheRealEd 03-05-2002 12:46 PM

I know for a fact that CCBILL does not sell their members database and neither does IBILL.... I have used both processors for over 3 years... even signed up for my own sites to make sure they don't do this kind of shit, and they don't ....

It's an easy test... just setup an email account specifically for a test like this... if you only receive a join and cancel email from the billing company to this address then you can be fairly certain that they do not sell their database :-)

If you start getting emails from anybody else then it probably means that they are selling the db.....

Just my 2 cents worth....

You're making too much sense Terry.

CCBill is not a 'certain' company. We are CCBill. You can find out many things about our company by going to our website and reading such simple documents as the TOS and the privacy policy.

TheRealEd 03-05-2002 01:36 PM

hehehe... topic closed....

read the TOS....

now KK, do you expect webmasters to actually READ simple documents? How many don't even read the TOS of the company they send traffic to/receive money from? ;)))

kmanrox 03-05-2002 02:07 PM

let's say that i know of 'certain' people who have bought 'certain' such email lists from 'certain' companies.... but to be honest, i was never told which 'certain' company it was, and will not tell you which 'certain' persons 'may' have told me that.....

but dont put it past 'anyone' for a minute that they arent selling your member lists...

DISCLAIMER: this is all just an opinion, possibly for entertainment value, take it for what its worth, if you so choose, I do not implicate or insinuation any company for these underhanded dealings.... this is just my opinion...

kmanrox 03-05-2002 02:11 PM

also, an idea for some of you, if you can afford the membership price of your own site for a few months that is (lol!)...

sign up using an e-mail address that is unique, like [email protected] (prolly something a little less conspicuous is in order) and only use that address to sign up for one of your paysites.... set a filter to go berserk when you receive a message to that filter.....

:::BAM::: bust some mother fucker's asses!

( and no, this is now how I 'may' know about what I said in my last post, and the same disclaimer applies, but this is another way to find out future compromise on your members e-mails )

kmanrox 03-05-2002 02:13 PM

and what i just said is probably some of the best anti-getting fucked cautions and bits of advice anyone could ever give you....

(other than dont buy anything from Rollin, dont have 18yo girls on your site that spacedog may surf past, he will accuse you of CP and ruin you, dont piss off lensman on GFY, and dont get any web design by australians know as Dan King - Turner, Tennis Ace, or Sergui )

same disclaimers apply

payrollpete 03-05-2002 02:14 PM

i sense a conspiracy...

"kman", is that really your name...hmmm *investigative look*

Kimmykim 03-05-2002 02:18 PM

Sorry to disappoint you Keith, but we don't do anything with the member information.

We are more than aware of the value of it, there's no doubt about that. But to us it's more valuable to keep our clients happy than to sell any names.

Oh and any email address that you come up with will eventually get a spam. Believe me, I've got addresses that have NEVER been used for ANYTHING and they get spam.

Hypo 03-05-2002 03:15 PM

A year back I created a brand new email address on a brand new domain and setup a pop3 account on outlook express and did a test send/receive and Bingo! Spam. I never figured out how..

payrollpete 03-05-2002 03:23 PM
