What is GWB and the Conservative Right's real agenda in this matter?

Avian flu has been around forever. We get hit about every 38 or so years with a new outbreak of some kind of flu or another. This one appears to be mutating into something that COULD POSSIBLY, at some point in the future, mutate into a form that is transferable between people.

But, it hasn't happened yet.

While I do believe that the CDC and pharmacutical companies need to be on top of this, I don't believe that it is the impending doom that the media is making it out to be. In SE Asia with a population of over 1 billion people, only 160 confirmed cases in 3 years. This gives a person in Asia a 1 to 6,250,000 odds of catching avian flu. This means that you are five times more likely to die of snake bite in your life according to the National Safety Council.

I noticed most of these reports are "government sources." And, I noticed that GWB has already suggested that we allow the military on our streets to quarantine entire cities. Fear tactics?

Knowing this flu is spread by wild birds, sooner or later, it will get here though bird migrations. Are we going to allow the military to integrate with the police forces and walk the streets of the USA just because some farmer's chickens in Nevada ate the infected feces of some migratory duck? I think GWB and the Far Right see a "silver lining in the Clouds".

After Katrina and Rita, GWB is giving the apprearance of being on top of the problem. Sooner or later, if the crisis looms large enough, he can ask for the repeal "posse comitatus" and get the authorization to use the military as a police force. At that point, our citizens will be possibly be facing tanks and artillery when they protest government policies. Our country's Constitution and Bill of Rights would be as much protection as the ones in the Central American banana republics. Your children could know the feel of the jackboot on the neck. I'd suggest that everytime GWB and his media wonks rachet up the "Crisis Meter", we know we about to have an election. How many alerts have we had since the last election? We had plenty in the days preceding the election. I believe that the Republicans have used the Homeland Security issue as a political device to instill fear in our population in order to politically benefit from that fear. The Republican's popularity numbers are down, so here we go again......new crisis!!!

Also, watch what happens to your bank accounts and investments as this crises develops. Somebody is gonna make a killing... No joke.

Anyways, food for thought....and, if you are worried about avian flu, get yourself a prescription of Tamiflu. Just in case....

why would anyone suggest that the flu might be a diversion?

If a outbreak of some kind happened and the government isn't ready he could suffer backlash like what happened in NO.

Thats why they are worried

We will beat this new flu menace or we will not. Better to be safe than sorry. We damn sure couldn't survive a 1918 pandemic.

sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.. every last fucking little thing to happen doesn't have to be some large conspiracy theory. EVERYONE is worried about the bird flu, not just the states.. in fact i think they were a little late into it as far as i can tell.
