New harddrive issue

I bought a new harddrive for my parents as they completely destroyed theirs beyond repair. I got winxp started on the install on the fresh drive, it gets about 70% done the driver install and then crashes to a blue screen. I can't get past it no matter what I do.
What could the issue be?

BIOS on the motherboard, or the motherboard is fucked, I think that happened to my old PC here at SC... cus we re installed from scratch and it was beyond slow when trying to run it.

Post details.

Size of drive? IDE or SATA?

Can you see the progress?

Is it a hard lockup requiring power off, or can you C-A-D?

Is this a retial version of winnie does? Have you called tech support?

No it's just some hardware which doesn't have drivers in the windows installation disk. Try to pull out any non-critical hardware you think comes from some unknown brand, then try.

I got a WD 240 gb. It was cheap. I had to format it myself, it came with the utility disk to do so.

I'll try unplugging hardware first before I do anything else.
