Something has to be done - I contacted the Red Cross to volunteer
People can give so much more than just money. Food, clothing, blankets are only part of what Pakistan needs right now. They are going to need everything and anything they can get.
Including strong hands and a willingness to work. Today I contacted the Red Cross back home in Canada. I'm not sure if they will accept me to travel to Pakistan and help with relief efforts. But even if they don't I think I am going to pay my own expenses to go there and lend my back to the work that so desperately needs to be done. Now this isn't for everyone. But if you are young enough and strong enough give it some consideration. Even if you don't please donate all that you can. We all know so much has already happen in the world. But shit we come from rich nations, I'm certain most of us can walk to work on day or stay at home for dinner instead of going to a resturant. The few dollars you save doing that won't make a big difference in your life. But for someone in Pakistan it means a hell of alot and goes a very long way. |
Good for you

you're gonna go all the way to pakistan? lol what a hero...

The Red Cross is a sham. My ex is volunteering in Louisiana right now and she said they are the most disorganized and dysfunctional organization she's ever worked with.
They couldn't even get her very easy and common name right. They have 3 people doing the job of one and some not doing anything. |

i agree with steve above, my neice had a job working there, for a couple of weeks, as an accountant. they were in SUCH a mess she refused to put her name to any documents infear of retribution down the road. this was a SMALL town branch and the litteraly have hundreds of thousands of dollars that were donated that they could not account for, money in desk drawers that the incompetant worker/volunteers had jsut put there to deal with later, etc. REAL mess...

I called the canadian red cross because I heard bad things about other international sectors.
But on that note, I'm open to suggestions. |
The Red Cross pays its executives about $200 Million a year.
They make over a billioin $ a year selling blood that people donate. The CEO of the Red Cross makes $650,000. The government reimburses them for their expenses in the disasters so where is the donated money going then? They do a lot of good things, but recently there's been a lot of questions about what this organization is really all about and what the money is actually used for. |
why is it that people could care less about their next door neighboor starving to death but if its a country a million miles away yes sure run and help
there is plenty you can do right in your home town to help people |
Way to go man! The world could use more people like you.

Watch your back while you're there. Don't let them know you're an adult webmaster or a non-muslim or you will be decapitated. Good luck.

But thanks for the positive words. It is greatly appreciated. |
I donated a few bucks to the red-cross, I wish I could do alot more though. Every little bit helps.

When Katrina hit here I went out of my way to find an organization aside from the Red Cross to donate to. I ended up giving to the Salvation Army, I hope they're better.
Somebody mentioned the government pays back the Red Cross? WTF? People donate to the Red Cross, the only way I can see the need for subsidies is if the Red Cross does a project they typically wouldn't or if they don't have enough money in their budget. Give your blood to the Red Cross, send your money to local churches and local organizations. As much as people like to bash churches, they really help a LOT of people in terrible situations. |
