It's a different story when stuff happens in your own back yard - the same people expect sympathy and support, which they will get, despite themselves. |
I think that num ber will still rise as recovered dead bodies continue to increase.

Why is it you guys think we have to talk about every damn disaster around the world for 5 weeks or else it proves we are all selfish scumbags? |
I am trying to forget. That's more depressing than the Katrina incident

Selfish scumbags may not be the general term, but sure is with the ignorant. |
5 Million homeless people is a major problem for any country.
I have a friend whose little daughter about 10 was in Islamabad. After he divorced she got custody and fell in love with an Arab guy and moved their with his daughter. Don't know if she was one of the kids crushed or not yet. The Arab guy my friends ex married was a successful businessman so hopefully she wasn't in one of the schools made of brick and mud. |
I feel bad for Pakistani's.

What happened to that country that supported Bush's "war on terror" to make sure you slept safe at night? (Least according to Bush). It's back to the usual flippant syndrome of "It's Monday morning so it's hate some country day". That's what we do each Monday morning... same on Tuesday... same on Wednesday ad nausea. It's just a quaint tradition and one of "our values". |

yeah I made a donation today.

on anybody' scale this isn't just another disaster. In addition to Pakistan it also hit India. Yeah, that's the same India that gave money to us for Katrina but they I was never taught to only have compassion for the people that gave me money in the past. These people live on less than $2 a day but yeah they aren't allowed our sympathy unless they pony up. |

We have enough going on here
I think there's enough going on here like a possible Britney Spears Sex Tape and Looting.
I shouldn't joke...alot of people died. It just seems like unless it happens in the US, then people simply don't care. |

However I just get sick of all the bash USA people because we don't sit here and talk about the stuff 24/7 or this or that. Sure we are going to talk about a Hurricane hitting N.O. for a few weeks or a terrorist attack on our country. That's because it directly affects us in our lives. So while thousands of people getting killed in another country is really bad. It's not something we are going to dwell on for days and weeks on end. It's not because we don't care, it's because it doesn't directly affect our day to day lives. You can call that selfish if you want but it's the truth. Just because we don't talk about it doesn't mean we don't care. You know, why is it only when something like this happens people say oh my that bad for a few weeks and pretend they really care.. Yet thousands of people have died in countries like The Sudan and no one makes topics for them. Why is it no one cares about the thousands of people put in North Korea death camps every year? N.K kills off entire families if one member does something wrong.. Kids are left to starve on the streets because the food aid we give them gets sold by the N.K. govt on the black market. What about the thousands of people dieing of aids in Africa, where is their forum topics? |
42000 by now...

i say fuck'em

I totally agree about not enough attention paid to the Sudan, etc. I could happily bore the board all day with world politics threads becaue it is an interest of mine. However, I guess the deal with things like this, the Tsunami and hurricanes is that they would happen regardless of political situations. Bitch slaps from nature are all of our buisness in my view. I know that some of those people killed in Pakistan probably wanted me dead. However, I am sure there are more there who had sons and daughters in the USA, Canada and the UK and who had no grudges. Then I am sure some of the people that died in Katrina wanted me dead too (being not totally straight, etc) but I gave to them too. |
Hailstorms hinder relief efforts and bring a new threat of mudslides on steep mountainsides as the estimated death toll from the huge South Asia earthquake soars above 42,000.
Nearly 3 million people are living outside amid freezing conditions, having been left homeless. Fuck that is sad. For any country to experience death tolls and tragedy like this. Just imagine it could be you, your mother or your daughter... 2005 been a bitch of a year so far. I can't wait for 2006 to kick in. |
FUCK NEW ORLEANS FUCK KATRINA AND FOREMOST FUCK PAKISTAN
i dont even care about myself! happy now? |
whoa that was foul heh

What do you want us to do, stop everything and be sad ? Everyone is sad for them, but you can't blame people for getting on with it. If you want to stop everything, go ahead, but don't expect everyone to do the same... |
