Anyone seen "The Take"?
Saw this movie yesterday, and I must say it is awesome!
What normally happens in your country when a factory goes bankrupt? Where I come from they close the doors, people lose their jobs and get a little bit of money from the government until they find another job. In Argentina there were no other jobs for the people and people in this once rich country had to resort to desperate means like rummaging through rubbish in search for something to eat. This was not a third world country, this was a first world country gone bankrupt, interestingly enough Argentina and Enron aparently filed for bankruptcy on the same day. So the factories were empty and the people had no jobs, until one day some 30 women that used to work for a suit making factory decided to go and re-open the factory on their own. Soon others cought on and over 200 factories were taken over by the workers employing tens of 1000's of people. Probably one of the most memorable films I've seen in ages! I will never forget the footage of a long line of armoured trucks driving from the banks to the airport in the middle of the night with all the money, how the fuck can banks like Citibank and other large international banks do that and get away with it? I deffinately reckomend everyone sees this film! |
Maybe it will come out here in a few weeks. Thanks for the good word :)
