Anyone ever have this happen to them?

I woke up today at 11am, and I was immediatly greeted by a horrible, steady, unbelievably painful pain in my stomach and my left side. I rushed to my bathroom thinking I just ate something bad the night before and I 'had to go' real bad. That wasn't the case, unfortunatly.
After spending 5 minutes in the bathroom trying to relieve myself to no avail, I stand up and I get a rush of lightheadedness, lose my balance and immediatly begun vomiting quite a few times. The pain was still there and increasing in intensity. I laid down, tried breathing excerises, and tried to cope with it. It was very, very painful. I couldn't move very well (I was very flushed and lightheaded) and even when I was laying still the pain was still there and increasing. It was accomanied by an intense feeling of having to go to the bathroom. For the next 2 hours, as the pain and the feeling of having to go kept increasing. I tried several times to go to the bathroom, only being succesful once. I didn't know what to do. I debated dialing 911, but by the time I really started considering it I came up with too many cons to warrent it. I decided to rough it out. I went to the bathroom once more, and it was then I noticed my urine was bloody. By now the pain was almost unbearable and I had to do something, so I popped some Nyquil to see if I could sleep it off. Eventually I was able to. The whole thing lasted 3-4 hours. I'm fine now. The pain is gone and my urine is back to normal. I find it odd that the pain and all the other symptoms went away in a couple hours, possibly meaning it isn't a serious problem. I also find it odd that I'm functioning normally now. Of course, I'm still going to make a doctor appt to see what's up. What would precipatate something like this? I did no alcohol/drugs or anything the day before that was out of the ordinary. Anyone ever go through something like this? |

Go to your doctor asap..sounds like a serious problem that shouldn't be ignored

Sounds to me you experienced what they call a "kidney crisis". You can get it from having kidney stones among many other things.

If I were to piss blood, I'd definitely see a doctor, even if you're fine now. That's not something to mess with.

definitely sounds like you passed kidney stones. how old are you? it's not that common for younger people to get them but it does happen.

I am going to see a doctor regardless.

well - for those of us a little older - pissing blood can happen for a lot of reasons - and you get tired of the doctor telling you it was a prostrate infection or a small kidney stone etc - although the kidneys should have given you quite a bit of back pain also. with the left side hurting that bad I would be more worried about my appendix - and definitely something to get checked out. The kidneys will usually clear up right away if its just a stone - so a repeat would tell you that it wasnt that - the prostrate would give you problems where right below the intestines in the front (way below you stomach) it is very tender in the center front and sometimes will swell to for a little "second stomach"

Lots of soda can cause kidney stones.

It does sound like a kidney stone. If it only took 3-4 hours, you should thank your lucky stars. I've never had one, but I've watched people try and pass one for hours and hours. Even on morphine, it was not a pretty site.
