Huge Bug Found in Pool - What the hell is it? (SEE PICS)
Things was dead and drowned in my pool. I live in Southern California, but I've never seen one of these. Is it some kind of super ant? A mutant grasshopper?
Here's a closeup of the head... http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/8886/3247708hd.jpg And here's a shot for scale... http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/9730/3247744ap.jpg |
looks like some kind of super queen ant bloated and ready to kill you

It looks like a cross between an ant and a grasshopper, that's the scariest thing I've seen in months. |

|
thats a potato bug...
they live underground... these bugs randomly get a tumor, and when they do, their senses tell them to go find water... so they come up from underground in search of water and always wind up dead in puddles or in pools :thumbsup |
Sad thing is both shots look like the photographer has porn shoot experience.

"Commonly referred to as "potato bugs," even though they do not prefer potatoes and are technically not bugs, they are also called niña de la tierra (child-of-the-earth), stone cricket or chaco. Believed by some to be fierce and poisonous, this nocturnal cricket is actually non-aggressive and possesses no poison glands, although its jaws can inflict a painful bite." I like the other answer better. |

They make great snacks.
You can't eat just one. |

They do spit shit into your eyes if you get close to a live one... And the shit is like mace! Also they can shoot this milky goo a few feet. So if you get close to one and want to really check it out in its live state, leave you hand up near your eyes and see if you can put it infront of them before the goo hits ya... Talk about fun....
On another note... Anyone want to do a site, www.potatobugfacials.com ? |
damn, that is big
|
dude host your own pics.... :1orglaugh :winkwink:
|
That thing is a Jerusalem cricket, I used to catch a few of them out at Red Rocks when I was a kid, haven't seen one in years though.
|
that shit is GROSS!
|
Di you check your bed or the bathroom? They could be all over your house now. :(
|
