do you define someone as a millionaire if they have a million dollars cash or someone who makes 1 million dollars a year?

net worth of at least $1 Million.....real estate, stocks, bonds, other possessions....not just what is in the bank account. Most of Bill Gates networth is what the value of his companies' stocks are at any given moment.

$1 million net worth. Who the hell would want $1 million just sitting in the bank on a piss poor interest rate other than someone worth a hell of a lot more than a few mil?

I believe it has to be paid for. Net worth takes into account liabilities.

Net worth over a mil. But its not that special being one now. You pretty much have to get more into the $10 Mil plus range to be considered rich.

As of Sept 2005 there were 8.9 million millionaire households in the US. And there are 25 million housholds in the $500K range.

So with 2.5 people per household that means about 23 million Americans are living in a millionaire household and 63 million Americans live in a fairly wealthy household.

On the ultra wealthy, there are an estimated 15,000 households in the US earning over $5 Million per year.

There are only 400,000 households with a net worth over $10 Million. So only 1 out of every 312 households are really really rich.

Wait a minute! Are you telling me that a "millionaire" is defined as someone having a net worth of at least a million dollars? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Why would they use such a strange term to describe someone who has more than a million dollar net worth?

Why not call someone who has a net worth of at least one million dollars a "billionaire"?????
