are those orange stand lights that you can get at walmart good enough for decent fake studio lighting?

They really are awful, but you can use them... make sure that you let them cool before you try to move them or the bulbs will break. If you've got a bit more money try something like this... you'll be much happier:

If it's just time was an issue, and not money... I wouldn't get that set.... there's some $300-$400 sets on ebay (with 3 lights, and more power) that you should look at. Still very inexpensive, but will work great at your level.
