Harrier Jet Crashes in swimmers - (video)

Harrier Jet Crash

s9ann0 10-07-2005 03:19 AM

thats mad the guy looked like he landed on the plane

broke 10-07-2005 03:21 AM

There goes $21.6 million.

UltraSonic 10-07-2005 03:57 AM

Dumb ass...... Harrier jets have a problem with hoovering at the same spot, they suck all the oxigen and heat up the air underneath the aircraft so the engine fails because it starts to suck up hot air without oxigen.
That's dumb ass should have kept it in mind instead of showing of.

Adult Cash Provider Carl 10-07-2005 04:41 AM

that is one exspensive stunt. lol

Ace-wtf 10-07-2005 04:42 AM

thx for the Scientific Explanation

ssp 10-07-2005 04:42 AM

I'm sure he loved to land on his plane's heated fuel!

no need to capitalize it, there is nothing formal about a scientific explanation ... if you're going to be a jackass, at least do it right :thumbsup

EroticySteve 10-07-2005 06:31 AM

Ok, if thats true, wich i'm sure it is, why make a hovering plane??? If you can't hover ???

I don't get that.

BuggyG 10-07-2005 06:38 AM

hey.. I was expecting to see it ACTUALLY land on the swimmers.. you RIPPED ME OFF!!!
gimme my 2mins of wasted life back

Actually it can hover...... at a greater alltitude where there is anough room between the aircraft and the surface for the air to refresh at the same rate or faster as the engine is sucking it up.
This pilot was hovering it to close and to long to the surface, the air between the aircraft and the surface got to hot so the engine starts to loose power.
Alot of harrriers got lost this way.
Let's just call it a design error, boeing was working on a military jet wich could hover but encountered the same problems, production was not started.

Tanker 10-07-2005 06:50 AM

When I was in the Marines they would hoved 5 feet off the ground all the time while we were out in training its a scary thing watching a hovering harrier hover and face directly at you

They do that on military bases and ships where they have kind of miniscular "holes" in the ground wich actually provide the hovering aircraft's engine with fresh air.

MindyBlingBucks 10-07-2005 06:55 AM

Wow. I'd hate to be that pilot.

V_RocKs 10-07-2005 07:13 AM

Shit happens...

pr0 10-07-2005 07:20 AM

that pilot had balls, he ejected at the last second trying to save that jet

probably the one of 10 jets that country bought from us....that def wasn't a u.s. pilot

AV Roe (Avro) was also developing hover technology back in the 50s in Canada...before the U.S. pulled the funding plug.

can'T they just pull that airplane out of water and repair it?

I'm sure not everything in it is good for garbage just falling from that high

That engine sucked up alot of water..... it's gone. All electrical systems are gone.... cockpit is half burned from the ejection seat rockets...... uhm, if you count the man hours i think they just better replace it :winkwink:

georgeyw 10-07-2005 09:55 AM

its made for vertical take offs and landings... not for hovering.
