SexSearch...What's Up? This is fucking retarded.

Someone at my office got an instant message worm that sent out messages to everyone on his buddy list. It said something like, "Hey, this is hilarious! Check it out!" and it was a link. When they clicked it everyone on their buddy list was automatically sent the same message.

Now........

There are tons of computers at my office that are infested with Adware and guess what window pops up EVERY FUCKING TIME? I won't name names but it starts with S and ends with EX SEARCH! WHAT THE FUCK! An instant message program hijacks someone's buddy list and the only spam/virus/adware bullshit that pops up is your shit. Care to explain this?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hold on, there's more!

My dad called me up telling me that his computer wasn't working right because he couldn't close all of the pop-ups he was getting. I told him to download several pop-up blockers. He told me that they weren't popping up when he was surfing, they just popped up. I go over there to run Adware and shit on his computer. Guess what pop-up was freezing his shit? If you guessed SexSearch then you are 100% absolutely correct!

What is the deal? Do you guys care about this or do you just not give a fuck?

Furious_Male 10-06-2005 09:11 PM

Sounds like whatever idiot created the malicious program is a sexsearch affiliate.

What did they say about the account when you emailed them about this?

I am actually a SexSearch affiliate and I have attempted to contact my rep (Marissa) several times about this. No answer. I have sent several emails and instant messages...nothing.

Furious_Male 10-06-2005 09:14 PM

Tap Marina she can get to the bottom of it.

I am cleaning a clients computer now of this shit (not anything with sexsearch). What a pain in the ass.

Sorry, Marina is my rep. She is the one that contacted me and I signed up under her.

No doubt, that shit is horrible to clean up! I hope SS doesn't have anything to do with this or even endorses this type of behavior!

Dirty F 10-06-2005 11:42 PM

Rob, come on, you know sexsearch MOST likely isnt doing this. We can be pretty sure its an affiliate.

pradaboy 10-07-2005 01:43 AM

Probably a rogue affiliate man, why would they bust their business over sucky popup spam?

nyana 10-07-2005 01:47 AM

no way SS would do this themselves.. they are a TOP NOTCH company and I am sure they will close down the rogue affiliate immediately .. just wait till morning they will settle it I am sure ..

Of course it was an affiliate, or someone intending to do harm.

Everybody who matters knows that.

But, if you want to call attention to something, you can't start a thread titled "Yo, Mystery Affilliate..."

This works. The company is made aware. The community is made aware. But I think people forget not to take these at face value when responding to these posts.

First of all, thanks Furious for sending me this thread. This is the 1st hearing about this.

Second, Rob (HighOnAcid) you never contacted me about this.
You might have some people mixed up here, because Im not Marissa

Third, I need the affiliate Sexsearch ID that you are talking about to kill the account and deal with the situation.

Her name's Marina,
How long have you been doing this?

Sexsearch is in no position to need to infect you with adware.
Trust me.

CherryLipsRosa 10-07-2005 10:34 AM

As an affiliate manager of iwantu.com I can tell you very well that sexsearch are not doing that and for sure they do not support it. Some affiliates have malicious ways to promote and they think that they can get away with it.
All you need to do is send them the link to sexsearch and they will find out who's behind it and take proper action.
No program will support any method that hurts their reputation more than benefits it.

Cheers!

No, you're right, Marina. You're my rep and I'm sorry that I didn't get the name right. Marina, Marissa...it's close and was an honest mistake. I have since shut my site down that I used when I was an affiliate for you and it did get one sale in the 2 weeks I had it running. I have $25 owed to me but according to your company policy affiliates don't get paid until they reach a certain amount so that is $25 I'll never see. Not that it's a big deal, I'm just pointing out that you are (were) my rep. and I got the names confused.

As far as the adware; If it pops up again I will get the affiliate code and send it to you. Please don't get snappy because I pointed something out. I would hope that you would screen your affiliate applications a little bit better (Like Lightspeed Cash for instance) and maybe your company's name wouldn't be brought up in situations like this. When I applied to be an affiliate with Lightspeed they asked me 100 questions and screened me before accepting me into their program.

You spammed me on ICQ after posting one of my sites on this board and insisted I became an affiliate with SexSearch in which I agreed. Not one single question, reference, or anything to verify that I wasn't going to infect thousands of people's computers with bullshit.

I'm sure Sex Search is a huge company and have a lot to lose if they let this happen and blah blah blah but if they're not doing anything to prevent it then I feel that they're a part of the problem. Money is money and if it's coming in buckets then I'm sure no one is going to question how it was made. That's just my :2 cents:

Rob 10-07-2005 12:07 PM

We made $500,000 off of adware being installed by rogue affiliates!!! It's not our fault but we'll keep the $500,000. Thank you for playing.

So can I hire someone to SPAM a million people, get tons of business from it and then when the hammer drops I just blame it on a malicious spammer that was trying to circumvent the system?

Think of the logic and that is the reason I initially started this thread.

Mixing up the names is not the point here. You never contacted anyone at the company & after all this you wrote here, you still did not include an account number; that I need to resolve this. It's very simple. In the future just contact someone at the company directly and it will be taken care of.

It seems half the programs on the board have affilliates that spam. Though the pool of cash they collect may be a warchest for possible upcoming litigation.

I didn't click on the popup so I didn't get the account (ref) number. I try to make it a practice not to click on adware popup windows, never know what those shifty "rogue affiliates" will install onto my system seeing how they're crazy like that.

But if another one pops up, you got it. I will contact someone from your company the next time this happens with their account number. Problem solved.

BradM 10-07-2005 12:29 PM

IF you think this is the first you have heard of it, you're a dipshit.
Spyware causes people to complain. You can bet your ass they deal with complaints all of the time - and somehow lose the complaints in the cracks. For those sticking up for the defence... you know how this game works so stop kissing ass.

There will be no litigation against them. They'll simply blame "rogue affiliates" or malicious spammers trying to ruin their company names and walk away scott free with a handful of cash and no regrets. Another :2 cents:

BlingDaddy 10-07-2005 12:36 PM

I hate popups.

Rob 10-07-2005 12:36 PM

Going back to Lightspeed Cash (and I'm not kissing anyone's ass here). I bet they [LSC] has 1/10000th of the complaints that these other companies have that are banking on "rogue affiliates". Like I said, I had to go through a complete shake down like I was an Arab carrying oversized luggage through JFK when I applied to be an affiliate. Hats off to them for taking so many precautions before just taking any Joe Shmoe off the streets to be an affiliate.

Nothing chaps my hide more than a "rogue affiliate"!!! Fucking assholes! :321GFY

Excellent, and in regards to your $25.00 dollars- send me the info where you want your money sent, or what is your SS Affiliate Account??
This way the money that is owed, will be sent to you.

BlingDaddy 10-07-2005 12:39 PM

I've told programs before about people spamming me and thread jacking and all kinds of stuff. Sometimes they write back, sometimes they don't. When tons of people hear about it it gets "fixed".

Marina, don't even sweat the $25, it's not a big deal.

Please excuse my sarcasm in this thread, it really does upset me when jackasses do this and gives reputable companies bad names or bad publicity. I hope something is done on your [Sex Search] end to help alleviate this problem.
