Anyone have high triglycerides withOUT high cholesterol?
I'm going to stop googling this now cuz the more I read the more I think I'm going to have a heart attack and die.
Anyone have this? I got a call today from the doc saying mine were high. Actually she had corrected herself and said VERY high... and that I have to come back and get tested again because it is rare to have this with having normal cholesterol levels. Anyone know anything about this? What do you think they will do if they test me again and it's still "very high"? Does that really mean I could have heart problems? What kind of tests will they run on my heart? Or will they? I'm starting to get paranoid. I'm sure that it's fine. It's just me looking it up that's making me nervous. Time to get health insurance. :helpme |
Start exercising! number one way to lower triglycerides.
High triglycerides are just one risk factor. Obesity, high cholesterol, family history, high blood pressure, lack of exercise, etc. all are risk factors too, and the more you have, the more worried you should be. I just got diagnosed with high cholesterol (273) but triglycerides and blood pressure are normal, but family history of high cholesterol and heart attacks, so I feel your paranoia. :( Look into trying high doses of Niacin - as long as you don't have sugar issues, I can't take it because it pushes my blood sugar too high. That is reported to lower triglycerides and cholesterol. This is an EXCELLENT forum http://forum.lowcarber.org/ there are a lot of very knowledgable people on what to take for various medical issues. My dr. wanted to put me on Vytorin, $80 a MONTH, for cholesterol, I found research on that board on Policosanol, told my Dr. and I'm doing a 3 month trial, cost me about $5 a month. Can't patent it, so no research in US, all the research was in Cuba. Bastard US drug companies. That forum will know products you can take for your condition. Also low carb diet would help you too. ;) Good luck, don't panic! Take the steps now to stop the damage and reverse it. P.S. don't know your age, but look into Anthem health care, I have a high deductable, but pay $150/mo it will at least cover me if I have to be hospitalized, after my deductible, they pay 100%. |
Yes I do..

Exercise is needed to combat the Tri's..
Also my doctor told me to get on to some Fish oil Supplements or some shit like that. But im on the same boat as you. Blood pressure is good, Chlosterol is fine, and glucose is fine. But my Triglycerides are high. And he sent a note telling me to "exercise exercise exercise" You get high Tri's more by not doing anything and lack of excercise and sitting around rather than diet and what you eat.. The good thing about this is, you save this Doctors note. Join a gym, hire a Trainer for 50 bucks an hour, and you can write it all off with your taxes.. Thats what I did for 2004.. Few thousand bucks in Training. You can write off all that exercise expense if your doctor says you have to excercise, and if it is documented. Not sure if you can write off things like a bike or running shoes from your taxes, but im 100% sure you can write off the montly gym fees and personal training. |
Hey.. Also if you didnt fast 12 hours prior to your blood test your results may be a bit wacked..
Like say if you ate Some Taco Bell Burritos at Midnight, and went in for the blood test the next morning at 8:00 am, that would give you high Triglyceryde count as well. Go in for another blood draw. And be real strict with the 12 hour prior to draw fast. |
Drinking before the test can do that. A good drunk will show up for three days I undersatnd, maybe more??? My doctor sent me to the hospital when mine spiked.
Yess, you will die some day. Let's hope that is a long way off. The other thing sometimes things get screwed up in testing. A second test makes sense to me. Don't drink the day before. And take a fasting blood test. In otherwords, don't eat after midnight and get the blood work done in the morning. I'm not a doctor. Just my experiences... Mine did drop. I did drink the night before the blood test that led to the problems. OK, drank to excess. Wish you well RRRed |
i just got my cholesterol check back after donating blood
It was fucking 298 :( Im taking Fish Oil Pills Garlic Pills and some kind of herbal remedy my mothers doctor suggested I got to get back to the gym as well |

My doc said not after midnight. Their office doesn't open till 9:30 or so. So that would be 9-10 hours..... Go for the 12 hours I guess or ask your doctor. I think most of us here got our medical degrees at GFY. Common sense too helps. Water = good, Mountain Dew = bad. |
My dad has it too. He first found out about a year ago. He went on some high-profile shake diet, he had to be on a waiting list even to get in the program. The diet really helped but wasn't good enough so the doctor gave him pills. He doesn't drink beer anymore and has cut way down on sweets, which is amazing considering he has the biggest sweet tooth I know of, and this has really helped as well.
Doctors hate the Internet because people get themselves all worked up over nothing after doing a little research. Stop worrying and listen to your doctor, you'll be fine. |
Oh, and like everyone mentioned, exercise. I believe he walks a couple miles a day now.

Hoping in 2 months when re-checked, it is all working. |
the solution is simpler than people realize.
it involves lifestyle and diet changes---long term changes. medication just masks the issue. if you want low cholesterol, low blood pressure, cure acid reflux disease, and fix many other problems you must diet and exercise. period. nothing tricky, there are simple fixes. do the research on soluable fiber, oatmeal, good fats vs bad fats. what to eat, what not to eat. lots of data avail online. think mostly vegetarian, mostly raw foods, and eat the right foods. you need aerobic type exercise for optimum heart health, not resistance training. (ride your fuckin' bike everyday) change your lifestyle or die early. sitting hours in front of a monitor eating fast food is a one-way ticket to an early grave. get a flat belly and bang more beaver. |
