Does Steve Jobs learn from his lessons?
I have to watch "Pirates of the Silicon Valley" again. That movie recreated a lot of the facts on why Gates is where he is and why we don't all use Macs.
The whole iPod thing makes me wonder about when the time comes that Bill Gates wants to take the market how he will. Apple is so locked on strongholding it's technologies. They seem to license nothing. I remember back in the day when Apple IIe+ computers were in nearly every home. I bought a generic Laser 128 instead of the IIe+. I guess there was some licensing back then. iPod and HP did there thing together but all it seemed to be was an iPod with HP on the box and on the case. What will it take for Jobs to get with the electronics industry and learn to play nice with others? |
Gates would love to get into the market but even he realizes he can't compete with apple in making mp3 players. Apple has a 92% US Market share and around 40% Global market share of all mp3 players sold. Those numbers are huge and to get into it now would be disaster for MS. Apple put Rio, who made the first mp3 player, out of the mp3 business. I can see maybe a few existing companies gradually chipping away at iPods market share but with all the new and better mp3s apple continues to roll out everyone else is falling further behind them right now.

Bill Gates is a smart guy. His two books were great to read and many of the things he talked/envisioned about back then are facts now. Go Gates Go!
|
it's also a known fact that bill gates is a huge stock holder in apple. he's investing in his competition because it's a smart move...

Its apples and oranges - you are comparing a hardware play to a software play.

i don't think he'd wanna get in the mp3 player business... he's having enough troubles with xbox...
