NYC is ultra expensive and you get hardly any sq footage for the money.

poorwebmaster 10-05-2005 02:18 AM

$3,141,592,654 a month! (Park avenue) - pretty irrational, NO?

ravo 10-05-2005 02:33 AM

Expect to pay at least $2000/mo for something nice. We rented a short term (2 months) furnished apartment thru www.nyhabitat.com - recommended.

Your nice and my nice must be different. You can't get shit in NYC for less than $4k a month.

michael2002 10-05-2005 05:45 AM

3-5k/month is fucking expensive..
i wonder how much will cost an apartment with 2 rooms to buy and how many people from the 20.000k people that live in new york have they own apartment

MattO 10-05-2005 05:48 AM

I was paying 1400/mo for a studio before I left Manhattan in 2000. The same place is going for around 2000/mo now.

A lot of the full time residents of Manhattan are living in rent controlled housing or lucked out. I have a friend who was on a waiting list for cheap housing for 5 years before a new building opened up in the East Village, 2BR, plenty of room for his wife and 2 kids, and he's paying $480/mo. Makes me cry, but good for them. It's a fuckin' nice building, too.

Jer 10-05-2005 05:50 AM

Insane prices.

Ross 10-05-2005 05:58 AM

Some of those places really suck. You need to pay like $5-6K for a nice place in NYC.

With that kind of money in Scotland, I can own a 6 bedroom house with double garage and huge garden!

Ross 10-05-2005 06:00 AM

Here's just a look at what $4000 a month could get you in Scotland

http://www.clydeproperty.co.uk/~admi.../SG3003-01.JPG

And we think our house prices are expensive :)

sweetcuties 10-05-2005 06:00 AM

Holy shit http://www.nyhabitat.com/new-york-price.html

PlugRush Sascha 10-05-2005 06:04 AM

What'd you expect? It's NYC.

If anyone wants a great deal on a 2 bedroom in Queens let me know.

SinisterStudios 10-05-2005 06:57 AM

By buddy has a 950sq ft apartment in NoHo, they just had it appraised at 1.25 million, so you do the math. NYC is insane with their prices, luckily they picked it up along time ago for $159,000 when there was no NoHo and it was the worst area in NYC to own. A good apartment in NYC is going to run you $3-4k a month

Rinaldo 10-05-2005 06:59 AM

I paid 4k a month to live in a 2/2 in manhattan for 4 months.

WebairGerard 10-05-2005 07:02 AM

alot of fucking money. what part of Manahattan?

bigdog 10-05-2005 08:07 AM

a lot of place are expensive as hell, and still not the safest places to live

Sosa 10-05-2005 09:00 AM

no fucking way I would live in NYC. Too many people for 1, and then the prices are fucking crazy.

michael2002 10-06-2005 05:04 AM

Hey, I've got a good friend looking for a condo or single family in Queens. He's been looking on realtor and he's doing drive by's. Last time I spoke with him, he plans on going to the court of records and trying to pick something up that way. He's cool with rehab

Ace-wtf 10-06-2005 05:25 AM

need inside information

Peace 10-06-2005 05:32 AM

too much money in NY small room 10X8 could cost you 600$

pr0 10-06-2005 05:51 AM

NYC is the coolest place to live during the day & party at night, & the shittiest place to sleep off a hangover, fucking 5-6am horns blaring, jack hammers repairing sidewalks. Waiting 20 minutes to get your car outta some sorta elevator lift only to find scratchs.

Fuck NYC, i got a love/hate with it.

Love the taxi drivers, its like gta3 when they got open road in the morning.
Love the food.
Love the diversity
Hate the smell
Hate the crime

Tango 10-06-2005 06:07 AM

all depends on the quality: $2000 to $5000 is not unreasonable - in a quality area with all services - doorman - etc..

They don't live in Manhattan. They live in the outer buroughs and take a train or a bus into the city to work. :2 cents:

spanky part 2 10-06-2005 08:17 AM

I rented from Jakobson properties for 5 years before we moved out of the city. They have a shitload of apt.s and there is no agency fee.

http://www.nofeerentals.com

figure on at least 2k unless you want to live in a shitbox or in Brooklyn (same thing) :1orglaugh

spanky part 2 10-06-2005 08:20 AM

and for those of you who say it isn't safe, you obviously haven't lived there and watch too many movies.

This is very true. Statiscally speaking NYC is one of the safest large cities in the country. The 70s and early 80s were pretty bad, especially when crack first hit the scene. Since then it has been cleaned up big time. Check these links:

4000 a month here gets you a bigger house then that.

Other than 9/11 what are you referring to? Again, speaking in terms of safety related to crime not terrorism.

Most recent stats regarding safety are from 2003.
