people with imporant domain names, i.e. your paysite domains, tgp domains, business..

etc etc etc...

is it safer to become your own enom reseller to keep your domains on?? because i've heard many godaddy etc etc horror stories about them shutting down their domains for stupid reasons... i'm thinking in the long run should i become my own domain reseller?? or where is a good place to have your domains??

currently i have half my domains on Namecheap and the other half on 1and1

what do u suggest? become my own reseller?

Best-In-BC 10-04-2005 08:32 PM

thanks bestinbc..

i'm not being paranoid thinking my domains are going to get hijacked... i am just trying to think of what would be the best/safest in the long run

Tat2Jr 10-04-2005 08:35 PM

Don't waste your time (although DO keep your domains off of Godaddy... WAY too many horror stories, and keep your domains locked). Concentrate on your core business.

lol people seem to think i am jumping way ahead of myself because i want to expand my program... but i'm not... any business needs to grow..

and about the domains, why is that way ahead of myself?? becoming a reseller costs less then 200 bucks... small price to pay for something as imporant as your domains :2 cents:

just trying to see if there is any real benefit to being your own reseller, instead of going through a reseller like namecheap

DateDoc 10-04-2005 08:39 PM

hahaha, I wasn't busting on you. It was more of a comment that everytime I'm online you are too and you are three hours ahead of me and I work late at night too. I admire your hard work but we all need sleep. :)

DateDoc 10-04-2005 08:40 PM

OH, and for those of you that are not promoting Julia Blue -> see sig :)

beemk 10-04-2005 08:41 PM

Well I could name dozens of sites, adult and non that make your operation look like a shoebox and there domains are just fine without being a silly reseller, worry about your traffic. You out of the red yet with that paysite?

i never claimed for it to be a big operation, but that doesn't change the fact that i want to grow the program :2 cents:

and about the reseller, thats what i was trying to see with this thread, a couple responses as to if its a good idea, or it doesn't matter.... thanks

That is why I said Ambien. :winkwink: I work wacky hours too but once in a while I do turn the PC off and just walk away from it. Takes some will power but you can do it too. Plus it will make the GF happier. :thumbsup

Something more expensive would be better?

Sly 10-04-2005 08:59 PM

Well... I have over 400 domains with Go Daddy. Have never had a problem. I'm not saying I'll never have a problem because you always run into problems eventually, but I'm confident that they will help me resolve any issues. I've heard "rumors" about Go Daddy, but never anything real solid.

Being a reseller really isn't going to give you any extra protection because you're still working through a middle company. What's the point? Use a top registrar and you should be fine. I would suggest Go Daddy, but you seem to be paranoid regarding them.

i think i'm just gonna leave them on namecheap, heard nothing but good things about them... though i just don't like the fact there is no phone number to call

Sly 10-04-2005 09:06 PM

If you're really worried, I would spread out my domains before becoming a reseller. Use a few different companies.

Ah yes, back on topic, I too have heard the godaddy horror stories but I have never had a problem with them either. I think the key is to let them know what you are doing ahead of time. If they are in the loop they will work with you. I have had a few sites hosted by them when they were basically just a general page that really wasn't "too" adult and then switched those sites to a dedicated server as I implemented them for their intended use. GoDaddy would always send me an email saying we are sorry to lose you but when I explained to them I was using the website for an adult purpose they were glad they were not hosting it. They have good customer service and if you make use of it you will get to know your rep who will work with you.

I recommend using several registrars and some outside the US also.

use serveral registrars? but what about if i have like 4-5 critical domains, spread each of them on a different registrar?

It never hurts to be diversified if you have faith in each and every company. Sort of like if you have a few million in the bank. Would you feel safer if it was in a few banks or all in one.

Wot KRL said sam - spread em! :thumbsup

Also, you said you used 1and1?? You may just have been lucky, but if you value domains it's too easy to end up shit creek with 1and1 and actually lose domains. They may be one of the "biggest hosting companies" on the planet, but nada clue up-front and a call centre with crap lines and totally pointless staff. The track record on complaints is massive.

munki 10-04-2005 10:40 PM

I'd jump on doing the reseller account. Not just for security in holding your own accounts, but keep things cheaper hosting, bandwidth, and name wise in the future I would suspect.

WarChild 10-04-2005 10:42 PM

I use directnic and sleep soundly at night.

pradaboy 10-04-2005 11:48 PM

Yo SOS, if you wanna make sure your precious domains are safe you have to move them to Moniker.com

Safest domain registrar online, many hijack attempts and none succeeded because of their strict security measures.
