Bush Nominates His Lawyer for Supreme Court

And she has no experience as a judge: CNN Story

Bush's puppeteers must be pretty confident that the american voters are all on prozac.

Paul Waters 10-03-2005 05:23 PM

I guess you are all on prozac.

<sarcasm>This president is sure a winner! I'm glad we have him to lead us!</sarcasm>

Matt Collins 10-03-2005 05:29 PM

I have to agree, I think this is a horrible nomination. I really liked Roberts and thought he was a great nominee, but I think a Supreme Court Justice should have some judicial experience.

IMHO.

You do realize that HALF the country, mostly the metropolitan, educated states voted against this fucktard. It's the uneducated, middle half of the country that wanted the great crusader as their fearless leader.

After Shock Media 10-03-2005 05:54 PM

I see this one as a lamb up for slaughter and not much more.
Makes me worried about the real nominee.

A justice without previous judicial experience? Doesn't seem that appropriate to me.

Last time I checked Los Angeles had a higher unemployment rate than Iowa. As a matter of fact I believe the crime might be higher in LA too. Hmm real educated there. You think the future of this country is in Compton?

Even the concept of one man who is obviously wound up in politics and hell knows what else, being in any position to appoint judges is a joke.

It's called a democracy, but not the first clue about separation of powers.

The poor and unemployed have been disenfranchised. They do not vote.

The polling stations are always moved around.

Unfortunately, they think one whitey is like any other. aka Barbie Bush.

You only prove the "uneducated Bush supporter" theory is correct.

You dont even promote anything - why do you insist on coming here and ruining it for everyone else? If you actually said anything that made sense nobody would mind - GFY is famous for its 'heated debate' lol - but you just say the first thing that comes into your head - its irritating, and not in a good way.

OK.. Let's be honest and without intending any offense. The reason others comment on the US is because so much is obviously outrageous and beyond the pale.

If the Admin had their act together and genuinely were "clean" - there would be little comment. There is a purpose to the cliche - "Only in the US!".

Finally, when the US Admin stops feeling free to comment on many other nations and make suggestions on the way they think these nations should be governed, is the day anyone in the US can justify telling others to shut the fuck up.

Hmmm...

Unfortunately, your country has adopted a policy of invading other countries, and making up lies to defend its actions. The world cannot ignor you.

We have to be very careful about you. We see an american electorate that would rather elect an idiot, moron because he is on the Republican ticket than an intelligent Democrat because they fear that he is a liberal.

Sheet, Tommy Jefferson was a liberal. And he wrote your constitution. Along with Benny Franklin, who said that "Thise who would give up liberty, for a temporary increase in security, deserve neither liberty or security." And Tommy J really liked the French. He was the ambassador to France, after all.

The polling station games in Mississippi, and the other southern states are well know. Except to whitey american republicans who want to believe that their elections are fair. CNN has reported the story many times.

But not so much since Sept 11. The day americans lost their press corps. I hope Bill Mahar embarrassed Anderson Cooper and CNN enough to get them to start asking the tough questions again.

Like why did it take 110 minutes for an F-16 to catch up to the last highjacked 747 on Sept 11? It took 20 minutes for an F-16 to catch up with Payne Stewart's death craft.

I worry about Canada. But I can't ignor a United States that is more and more run by the fundies and Haliburton.

Cheers

OK.. That's one view!!

Enter the "us" and "them" and "hating the US" and "jealousy" - the basic elements that make up a fantasy world a few folks live in within the US.

Why the hell should anyone hate the US or be jealous of it?? Gimme a break and get real! :winkwink:

Hate??? I am not a fundie. It is the fundies that have the binary thinking of good/bad, right/wrong, believer/non-believer, love/hate. With us, or against us.

I grew up in the border city of Niagara Falls, and have many american friends. I know a lot about western New York. I have worked extensively in the US.

I am white. And I am proud that my ancesters provided refuge for slaves fleeing to Canada via the underground railroad.

I see the republican party as much like the scientologist church. You see your friends join it, and you want to help them.

I grew up during the anti-vietnam war peace movement. Musicians and artists in general lead the questioning of the governement's war policy.

I do not understand why there is not a peace movement today. American youth seems devoid of any free thinking. Seems unable to question. Seems to accept the republican party line, as Haliburton pigs out at the public purse.

Conspiracy theories fester because the questions that must be asked, are not asked.

But, who cares. You have your prozac.

I dunno why I bother replying to bullshit.

1. I never knew Paul was not bin Laden - you learn something every day.

2. What as some US political party got to do the fantasy world?? I was not even talking about US political bullshit and some party you are obvious intent on defending. I don't give a shit one way or other.

3. DUH?

People are jealous because some country with an idiot policy that can't even take care of their own back yard but fuck up other countries? No, I don't think so, - it's more a smirking time at the idiot juvenile behavior - not jealousy.

If they "hate" the US because of foreign policies - sure, there's some cred in that. Substantial numbers of these "policies" are so wonderful any asylum patient would approve and "notable" the world over for their insanity. As for "hate" - often not without good and just cause. Fortunately, most folks don't hate, but that's swelled in numbers, especially in "terrorist orgs" thanks to the clever recruitment campaign by the current resident at the Whitehouse. Is that the "American influence and power" you mean? bin Laden would smile.

Dream on!! :1orglaugh

That is something that still amazes me Squirtit. Where else in the world.. or at least the "civilized" world, would you get so many appointments to positions of relative importance of people with often no credentials, qualifications or valid track record?

Dumping political crap, tho hard to get away from in the US, there are very few countries where public service indivduals just pop up out of oblivion and end up in positions.. eg.. such as "President"??? Duh! Especially when that person has an utterly disasterous prior record in both his short term political career or business career.

I remember speaking with an elderly lady who was a well-known international jurist, (*very* bright and amazingly "level" in all her words), when I questioned the US scenario of the judical system, the response was just a smile. But then followed comments along the lines that there are many good judges within the system, but the system and external elements fail them. An example of an "external element" being the inability of a US Admin being unable/not willing to ratify human rights treaties, - even for their own citizens.

Sure, you would think the basic qualification, especially for a Supreme Court Justice, was 25-30 years on a bench and with a clean track record. And... sure as fuck not any judge who has expressed *any* political affiliations, nevermind working on behalf of one political party! But... it's the US! :1orglaugh

I read that about the law degree as well and kinda chuckled to myself. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out Bush wants to make his Dad proud and will do anything to make that happen.

Interesting story here about halfway down about how she fired someone, 4 months after she hired them, to keep them from looking into Bush's past http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/10/03/D8D0NUJG0.html

I really understand where you're coming from. I have to say, that after living abroad for the last 3 years I can honestly say that the U.S. system isn't the worst by far. No system is perfect and the U.S. has the benefit of openly critisizing the system and moving for change by public opinion, which is more then can be said for many of the great nations on this planet today.

Living abroad I've also been humbled to realize the U.S. isn't what all of us Americans are brought up believing it is, or once was. It's amazing what a refreshing take on reality you get living outside the U.S.

There is no doubt that Bush and his administration shames America and it's a hard time for us all right now... but nothing runs smoothly all the time and I'm a firm believer that what has been wronged, will be made right by us again, even if it takes us generations to do it. The last think Americans want America to become is another Russia, Germany (past tense) or China. :pimp

Sure is not the worst!!! :1orglaugh

It's indivuiduals (judges) in action daily that form the overall impression and there are some very good judges sitting on benches within the US.

Compare that to one I sat in front of within the last three months. I was stunned by the opening comments by this guy which were - "I don't want anything for this and I want that to be known at the outset. When your project is complete, it would be nice to be invited for afternoon tea."

This judge was openly saying he did not want to be bribed??? Gimme a break!! :1orglaugh

PS.. It was a planning application in front of him. But gotta admire him for his candour!!

True! It's in keeping with the still current practice of appointments based on no actual judiciary experience.
