Is Country Music Getting Better?

Is country music getting better or am I just turning into the white trash redneck I have always feared?

I find myself liking 3-4 country songs now.

One of which is Willie Nelson.
WTF?

kuwawawah 02-28-2002 12:04 AM

Old school country has always been good...but it's not getting better. It died in 1989. Thank God for Slayer.

titmowse 02-28-2002 12:07 AM

kane 02-28-2002 12:41 AM

If you take much of today's country you'll notice that it sounds an awful lot like 70's rock

Country music is the root of all stupidity. It's outright horrible. No offense to you rednecks, and boneprone.

Country music is written about 3 things:

1. Your Wife Ran off On You...
2. Your Pickup Is Broken Down...
3. Your Dog Died...

WTF?? You gonna tell me I am wrong??

titmowse 02-28-2002 01:42 AM

let me guess...next you'll post that rap is only about capping homies and drinking 40's

the thing with country now and especially the artists I dig (check the Waylon Jennings thread) there was actually musicianship...not some 20-something cuntrag with 5 synthesizers and e coursing through their veins deciding which riff to steal next.......lately, I hate country though...all these gowgirl whores and Shania Twain wannabes and crap like Garth Brooks, trying to be Ted Nugent with a cowboy hat (not working Garth, sorry, but your 15 minutes is waaaay over)

but, eyah I'm old...now let me go toss some Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Slayer, Napalm Death and Willie Nelson in the cd playaer and get set for some work :)

yer fucking wrong.

Country music must contain one or more of these:
drinking
prison
momma
rain
pickup trucks
trains

ie:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

like i said before, ya'll don't know shit about country music :GFYBand

ServerGenius 02-28-2002 03:45 AM

STAY OFF THE DRUGS!! I don't know what ya all been using but it sure ain't good! Dammit who stole my horse?

If, by chance, you've missed my (and many others) favourite piece of classic country by The Gourds (u know the name of the song)

I got a pocket full of rubbers and my homeboys do too
So turn off the lights and close the doors
But (but what) we don't love them hoes
So we gonna smoke a ounce to this
G's up, hoes down, while you motherfuckers bounce to this

Rollin down the street, smokin indo, sippin on gin and juice
Laid back with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

"Ropin' the Wind" was the first album to enter both Billboard's country and pop charts at No. 1..

"Sevens" reached platinum status in less than 2 weeks, breaking the record for first-week sales by a solo artist..

and that was just the beginning..

and you say it's "not working"?

Scootermuze 02-28-2002 05:32 AM

I worked along side of some of the greatest in the field.. Worked with the George Jones Organization for awhile.. Did the Conway Twitty Spring Tour in '81 when I was Helen Cornelius' drummer, worked with Hank Jr. a few times.. and others.. and yes.. country music has changed its flavor and appeal over the years with the younger artists like Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson. Alan did however bring back the old country sound.

But there'll never be another Merle Haggard.. and George got a bad rap with his "No Show Jones" reputation which was not all his fault..

We are just getting older man :(
Waylon and Willie are really talented musicians, though. I can appreciate any music that takes talent to perform.
