Malcolm in The Middle Goes to Burning Man?
:Oh crap
Grrr... this just doesn't seem right. It's one thing for Homer Simpson to go to Burning Man as an animated charachter, but Malcolm? Nevertheless, I'll have to check it out. http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/li...=20050909fox18 MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE (9/30; SEASON PREMIERE) Air Date: 9/30/05 (FRIDAY) Time Slot: 8:30 PM-9:00 PM EST on FOX Episode Title: "Burning Man" (MIM-701) Malcolm and Reese try to sneak off to the Burning Man festival, but when Lois and Hal catch wind of their plans, they decide to borrow an RV and make it a family trip. At the festival, sparks fly between Malcolm and an older shaman (Arquette), Lois learns the joy of hemp and goes topless, and Hal becomes performance art. The festivities come to a screeching halt when the RV goes up in flames on the "Burning Man" episode of MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE Friday, Sept. 30 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (MIM-701) (TV-PG L, S) Guest Cast: Rosanna Arquette as Anita, Jeff Doucette as Nate, Cece Tsou as Vivian and Kim Shannon as Kit. |
yeah i cringed when i saw that. not very cool to add that commercialism to it i think. it will attract the mainstream and taint it. they will of course misrepresent it just like t.v. does with everything sacred. hal and tassy should watch to, so we can have a discussion on monday about it. :2 cents:

Yep, next year Burning Man will be akin to Lollapalooza III
Feminists will fight for a Burning Woman event. The government will see this as a threat to humanity and impose regulations. Nudity and freedom of speech and expression will be eliminated. Any acts or scenes depicting anything sexual or provocative will be censored. Thanks FOX. |
One thing I really like about Burning Man is how much of a pain in the ass it is to go. It's hot. Dirty. Dry. Windy. Out of the way. It requires a lot of planning. It requires a lot of commitment. As far as camping goes, it's an expensive venture. One you're there, that's it. You're cut off from the outside world. Hopefully, as long as there are substantial obstacles, only those who really want to be a part of it will attend. |
Ironically... I got contacted by Media Mecca today and was asked to remove all Burning Man pictures from our pinkgasm blog.

Yeah? What reason did they state? Did they threaten repurcussion if you did not remove the pic's? |

If the "Wilderness" keeps getting farther away, one day we won't be able to afford the return trip. 2HP |

I have heard that a few vetran burners worked on the show and that it was handeled pretty well. We shall see. |
American Dad went to Burning Man. great episode.
|
UPDATE: A vetran burner and DJ friend of mine posted this: i actually worked on the malcom in the middle burning man episode. it was pretty funny. all the pokes were at the malcom family, not at the burners. they even had a larry esque character explaining the concepts. its like an old 97 style burn, with hay bales, ect. |

People don't longer go there to be part of it, they go there to see it. |

UPDATE!
Burning Man has an official newsletter called "The Jack Rabbit Speaks". This was on the JRS letter today.... Yes, we know about Malcolm in the Middle tonight at 8:30 PM on FOX, where the family takes a trip to Burning Man. No, it's not really at Burning Man. No, we didn't "approve" it because in this case it's not up to us. Yes, really. It's satire. No, it's okay. We don't mind laughing at ourselves a little, anyway. (See also: "The Simpsons", "American Dad", "Reno 911". These shows have all had a little fun at Burning Man's expense. Funny? Yesss.) No, we're not big TV fans, but yeah, we're gonna watch it. What, you're not just a little bit curious? |
When the New World Order finally arrives I hope to have a job rounding up freaks and weirdos. I think I'd really be good at it.
