.......who's done it, and thinks it worked or didn't work, and why?

doing it right now. i get to see her and fuck on the weekends but i gotta sit on the damn phone every night during the week talking about a whole bunch of nothing. it's getting old real quick...

i couldnt drive (broke my hand in a motorbike accident)
and she used to come and see me,take me etc.

How far is the distance and do you trust her?

she lives in the bay area and i live in sacramento. it's like an hour drive. and yea i trust her cuz it's been 3 years off and on...but now i basically control her. i talk to her a lot everyday so i know where she's at. when we're "together" she keeps her going out with friends to a minimal and so do i. i don't mind though cuz i get a lot of work done. only thing is gas prices are killing me picking her up on the weekends...ima start putting her ass on the train...

Been there, done that. Difficult to work because relationships are about the small things, the day to day. Seeing someone only every so often leads both parties to put on the show of everything being good, and so all those more mundane, and yet so important issues get pushed aside. And then build up till there's an elephant in the room. In Ovids' "Cures for Love" he suggest that one should start out by choosing well. In my mind that includes location.

But long distance relationships can be good, I think you get alot more quality time when you don't see each other so often.

He was a little more than 7000kms away - married now 6 years.

It really depends on the people, some people it works fine, others not at all. If you both can do it, then all the best to you both.

Long distance sucks but I'm starting to think that more marriages would work out if married couples carried on their own lives in their own homes and got together a few days a week and on the weekends.

Difficult, but depends on the couple.

Will work for some, not others...

I've done it. its a challenge.

I think the key to it working out is a huge amount of trust, love for the person and having a end in sight.

I have not done it because I don't believe in them. Relationship is about being together and no amount of phone calls or emails can equal a simple kiss or hug and the thought that she's just by your side.

I couldn't do it.

it works if you're patient and both you and the other party want it to work bad enough that they won't let temptation ruin it. don't do the long distance thing for *too* long though, things tend to sour or the person thinks of it as more of a fantasy and that you'll never really be able to spend day to day life together.

No relationship is easy...i have had several LD relationships and they were not easy either....Romance is just not easy...

Done two. One with an Australian girl. One with a girl in Maryland when I lived on the west coast.

Don't do it. It doesn't work well and it's incredibly expensive flying back and forth in terms of your time.
