Origins: No, a 21-foot crocodile has been not been found swimming around the flooded streets of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. These photographs were taken in a very different part of the world over two years ago, and someone has simply altered the text that originally accompanied the pictures in e-mail forwards and changed the locale to New Orleans:

Monster in Pointe Noire

This crocodile was on the beach in front of the Petroleum club, Plage Sportive In Pointe Noire. 21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum.

Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. For the past few months in some villages close to Pointe Noire people were complaining that some people in their villages have been disappearing, could be this crocodile. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00 pm, currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel.

These photographs actually show a crocodile that was shot and killed on 6 July 2003 at Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo. According to an article in allafrica.com, the reptile was a Nile crocodile whose vital statistics fell a bit short of the claims made above: he was estimated to be 50 years old, about 16 feet in length, and about 1,900 lbs. (not quite the 80-year-old, 21-foot, 4,500-pound monster described in e-mail). The local mayor reportedly insisted on preserving the crocodile's carcass against the efforts of locals who wanted to eat it and arranged for it to be shipped to a taxidermist.

I saw a 20+ foot gator at a state fair. I thought the thing was stuffed or a fake and the owner got pissed at me teasing him and lifted the cage lid, poked that gator with a stick and it reared up and roared!

Lemme tell you, I was 16 at the time and I broke every track and field record known to mankind and there were witnesses to boot!

Ya Bowzer, the photo ain't a fake but the story is. Still, at 16ft and 1,900lbs that is still one big fucking monster. It's a damned dinosaur at that size. Can you imagine how strong that fucker is????

Gators and crocs can run like 30mph at short distances and can kill a man with a tail swipe. That croc got that big and now telling how big they can get. Science still doesn't know how long gators and crocs can live or how big they can get. Fossils show they used to get to be 40-50ft. They're like sharks, long as you feed em' they'll keep on growing.

Not true. There are perhaps several hundred crocodiles in the U.S. alone.

They're in zoos and labs and a few in the wild as they were pets and let loose.

Some crocs live on the golf courses on Sanibel Island. I've seen them run, it's so weird. They stretch their legs up so they are much taller than I ever thought. If they chase you, you should run zig zag, apparently they can't do that.
