Library of Thumbs owner issues plea for help
 

I am passing along news that I've acquired elsewhere. Hopefully some of you can find in your hearts/wallets to help Humbolt out.

Plea for help
Devoted Surfers, I live in South East Texas where Hurricane Rita decided to do her destruction,
A portion of my roof was carried away , a 60ft oak tree in the front yard fell inches from the house.
With no power no water and no electric and none expected for a min of 3 weeks, my family is really hurting.
The heat index yesterday was 104 and we have to stay outside in tents due to the house being an oven.
I was able to locate a generator, but gas is limited as I have to use the gas from my car to run it and this will only last
a day or so..60 miles to the nearest gas when gas does become avail..
Myself and two other families are going to try to rent a house somewhere where we can ride this out
until all the basics are restored..
Please find it in your hearts to make a donation to help...$ will go to food
and rent for 3 families...total of 13 ppl incl two very young children.

Used to be a pretty big site. I guess I figured he was making money. How does he have internet and an ATM ?

I don't normally post here, or anywhere for that matter. I've been doing some work for Humbolt from Library of Thumbs for the last 3-4 years and he's a personal frind of mine and a good dude. I just talked to him tonight for the first time since the hurricane hit after he scrounged up a generator and siphoned some gas out of an old car to power the generator to power up his computer and sattelite internet service and managed to get online for a few minutes and wanted me to come post something like this for him.

Humbolt lives in Pineland, Texas near the Sabine Pass and is north inland of Port Arthur I believe it's called, about 30 miles north of Jasper I believe, see this article on conditions in Jasper. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...av=rss_business

He was hit directly by this last hurricane Rita at full force. His home suffered severe damage from a tornado and they have no electricty, phone, water, fuel, or infrastructure of any kind in the area and they're saying it could be several weeks before it is restored. They are practically living in the stone age. I told him he could come up here and stay for awhile, but he has alot of animals as well as everything he owns which would all be stolen if he left it, so leaving is not an option.

He says him and his family are currently living outside in tents because it's so hot inside the house and a good portion of his roof is gone, they have very little food or water, and have barely received any help from the government (6 bottles of water & a bag of ice). He has a generator and he's trying to find a source of food, water, and fuel to run his generator so he can update his website, and maybe run a refrigerator and a couple fans in his house in the future and if he doesn't find a source of water soon they're going to be drinking the water out of his swimming pool. He says they're already using it to flush the toilets and to give the animals.

He wanted me to ask any of you that could help him out to please donate some money to his paypal account, so he can be able to afford the overpriced fuel (when it becomes availible) to run his generator, buy food and water, and to fix his roof and that he would pay everyone back when it became possible for him to do so.

I aksked him several times for partner account but never received reply :( But I will send him donation and I hope his children will not suffer anymore.

I think Shemp has spoken with him, but I am not 100% positive on that.

Way way back in the day. I think I saw a Humbolt post here or somewhere in the past year though, I'm sure of it.

Definitely one of the quieter long-timers.
