philips has lightscribe DL external ones, dunno if youre into LS but its nice, media are still expensive though

I would stick to any LG DVD burner. They're the best!

Internal or external doesnt matter as you can buy a USB/Firewire enclosure and both items would come close to the "External" writers

Plextor makes the best burners.
