Has anyone here got 'old' money?
 

So im hiding in the loft with the LapTop.

When I bought this house it came with a cleaner.... she is shocking.

I have to hide on Tuesdays because its the only way any cleaning gets done. She cant really clean.

My mum has a couple of flats that she cleans as well - her parting gesture when she left for France was "Sack Rose!"

I cant do it - 10 years of hard"ish" service. She is a shocking cleaner - but I like her.

I have "old" money. This same crumpled $10 bill has been in my wallet for like two weeks, but I use a card to pay for almost everything nowadays.

You probably had to be there to find this as funny as it was at the time, but we had the housekeeper from hell many years ago. It got to the point that my father and I were going out early in the mornings and finding excuses to stay out of the house, just to avoid her. And he couldn't bring himself to fire her...

Fortunately she left of her own accord after a while, but it was several years before my father could bring himself to risk hiring a replacement. Finally he placed an ad and one evening the 'phone rang and I heard him begin explaining about why he was being so cautious as to who he would hire. He spent some time going over our 'adventures' with our last housekeeper and then put the 'phone down and started laughing his head off.

Apparently the conversation had finished with the caller saying something along the lines of "I don't think there is much point my coming for an interview, since I am the nightmare woman you have just been talking about in such detail..."

Lol - she is related to mine.

My aunt had a housekeeper for 30 years. The last 10 or so she had to hire someone else to clean up after the "main" housekeeper. She just couldn't bear to fire her ;) She finally retired when my aunt moved 100 miles away and she wasn't willing to make the drive to sit and watch soap operas and talk to my aunt all day :)

Anyhow back on topic. Just pull the trigger and fire her. Why be miserable. Why pay for a service that isn't being performed to your liking? Its not that hard. Just let her go.

You can ALWAYS tell old money from new money. New money people are like kids in candy stores and old money people are conservative, business oriented, and frugal.

Money is like anything else: when you are used to it, you take it for granted. And in Europe especially, a lot of "old" money is associated with land-owning, which often means cash poor since overheads are high and death duties take their toll on each generation. I often thought that the current European tendency to consider overt displays of wealth to be tasteless, was largely making a virtue out of a necessity...

I just got a headache with this thread. I thought this had something to do with which of us webmasters inherited old money.
