Going to see Roy Jones/Tarver fight next weekend

My first live boxing match, and I picked a good one. Anybody else going?

I have to say, were Jones in his prime, he would embarrass Tarver, but I think he's lost whatever it was he had. Hopefully he'll be the old Roy again and make this one a good fight.

Interesting, I saw the first two fights between them, both at Mandalay in Vegas. Jones has yet to beat Tarver, regardless of what the so-called decision was on the first fight.

Nice! RJJ grew up in my city and Roy Sr. is my neighbor. He's a great guy and always does a lot of things for the local community.

I'm not going to make it to the fight, but I'd like to see him get his 50th win and avenge himself against Tarver!

That's either going to be a great fight or a very sad one.

Jones won the first fight all tarver did was try and steal every round with a flurry the last 30secs. You also have to remember jones had just got done losing 30lbs or so of muscle to make weight for the fight after bulking up to fight ruiz.

In any case i really hope roy wins this fight would hate to see his career end in two losses.

FelixFlow 09-26-2005 10:21 AM

if roy loses this fight, it would be a 3-loss skid ^

Ace-wtf 09-26-2005 10:23 AM

I thought Jones won it on points... Jones won more rounds, but Tarver won his rounds much bigger.

I have a feeling Tarver will get his ass handed to him this time by Roy.

brizzad 09-26-2005 10:58 AM

if you're close enough, try letting Roy know that he sucks as a rapper and needs to stay out of the baton rouge rap scene

Verbal 09-26-2005 11:03 AM

I'll be there! Can't wait, going to be an awesome fight. :thumbsup

I don't know... the only fight that really concerns me about Roy is his last one when he was knocked cold. That's the one that makes me think he might be slipping.

In the first Tarver fight, losing 30 lbs of muscle was a legitimate issue... I know Jones' style and abilities... I've been watching him for years, and he wasn't himself that night. He was tired by round 3... yet he still won (and there's no doubt he won on points). In the 2nd fight, he was making Tarver look silly. The punch that knocked him out was the only good punch Tarver landed... and if you watch much boxing, you know that can happen sometimes. Look at Lewis/Rahman. One lucky punch doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot.

We'll see. Whoever wins, I'm just hoping for a good fight.

no doubt, and i totally agree that the roy jones of now isnt the same roy jones as before, both those KOs seem to have slipped him, at least he is back in the ring fighting though, he is def. a great watch, enjoy your fight. :thumbsup

Its hard to call this fight because Tarver is way taller and on top of that he's a southpaw which makes him harder to fight. If you seen their last fight Jones totally dominated the first round but it only takes one blind punch to knock you out and its hard seeing the left come from a southpaw especially when 90% of your opponents are right handed and you're used to it whereas 90% of a southpaw's opponents are right handeded so he doesn't have to make to many adjustments.

Just look at Tarver's fights with Eric Harding, another southpaw, he had trouble with Harding for both of the fights so a fight like this has more to do with style than anything else.
