Way back in the 70's when I was studying marine biology Jaques Cousteau brought up the issue of the military using dolphins, seals, whales to deliver weapons and spy and rescue.

Then I saw the story above on the Drudge website and was stunned. It's about dolphins supposedly used by the military in such manners and due to the hurricanes the dolphins are loose and ARMED.

This has got to be the funniest thing I've read in years.

I can imagine some dude catchin' a wave and a dolphin shows up with a mini-gun attached to it's back and blows him away.

OMG that's funny you bring that up cuz it is TOTALLY TRUE. I met this lady on an airplane and talked to her for hours about his. She trains them herself and said she hated doing it because they are basically innocent suicide bombers at times. But most of the time they can swim up to something and give a yank to a release rope or something like that will drop bombs or whatever it is. I can't remember all the details but at the time it was quite fascinating.

Well this article says the Navy using dolphins as weapons is bogus. There was a week long story about missing dolphins from the N'Orleans aquarium that got found and that may have sparked all this.

Yet the Navy could be lying to keep animal rights people off their case.

Dolphins and whales are friggin' scary smart. Sperm Whales that hunt giant squids are fucking awesome. I saw on Discovery Channel where they attached sensors and a camera to a Sperm Whale and it lead it's pod ( family of whales ) on a hunt for giant squid and they all dove to some ungodly depth and the scientists freaked out because the whales literally changed their physiology minute by minute to adapt to the crushing sea pressure. Freakin' bizarre that an animal can do that and in some cases some subs can't go that deep.

That story kinda reminds me of one Batman's movie.

The military using or at least testing the use of dolphins for military purposes is true, this story however probably not true. The US military actually got the idea from the Ruskies after the end of the cold war, when it was found out that Russians had been experimenting with dolphins.
