Luck, or something else? I should be DEAD right now.

Nothing was plugged into that outlet when it shorted out. The brand is Centerex. I don't know enough about electronics to say how it happened, but I won't be buying their stuff ever again.

All I know is that I haven't been to bed from last night, and I NEVER stay up this late. EVER. I was going to go to bed at 5 AM, but I felt like I SHOULD NOT go to bed! Then this happened at 9 AM, when any other day I would be asleep... and dead due to smoke inhalation! I heard a loud pop and then found this with fire shooting out of it like a blowtorch.

No working smoke alarms either. Interesting coincidence though is that a few days ago I noticed the alarm didn't have a battery in it and then an hour later by chance came across probably the only 9volt in the house. Didn't put it in though.

Yet another weird thing is that about a week ago I propped that up like that. For YEARS it had been laying flat on the floor, which would have meant the carpet would have went up pretty quick.

A lot of very strange things working to prevent the fire. Pure luck, or something else?

House almost burned down last year also. Luckily the neighbor saw it on fire and called. Odd thing about that is she said for the past 15 years she has vacuumed her house first and then done the dishes afterwards. But that one day (she says only time in 15 years) she vacuumed half the house, stopped and then did the dishes. That's when she saw the fire starting out of her kitchen window.

Damn lucky if you ask me. When I was 15 our house burnt down due to a short in an outlet.

Matt 26z 09-25-2005 08:42 AM

That was going for about 30-45 seconds, and there was still a ton of smoke in just that short period.

You must be doing something right, sell more porn.

Dirty F 09-25-2005 08:44 AM

Cut the bullshit,. You got lucky.

People always seem to remember really odd stuff the day something big/scary/important happens. But 2 days ago you also did some odd stuff you never do but you dont remember it because nothing happened. Same with the day before and before that.
Always the same bs. Think before you post hippie shit like this.

A strange experience i had as a boy (i was 15 or so). Never told this to anyone.. i aint no treehugger yo.

I drove on my bicycle from school to home.. and i had to pass a heavy traffic roadcrossing. I was on my bicycle full speed and a few feet from the stoplight i noticed it jumped green so without hitting the brake i passed the green light.

Within a second of passing i heard someone screaming my name so as an instinct
i hit the brake and stopped 2 feet after i passed the green light. A car passed by full speed (that obviously whent through red) with only an inch between my bike and the car. The stream of the car moved my front wheel thats how close the car got.

I looked around me for the person taht just saved my life: nobody there.. was an industrial crossing so not that anybody was hiding in the bushes or screaming from a house. Really nobody there.

Im with Frank tho. I share his views on these type of incidents. And i write off many of these things (for myself) to the "if this or that wouldnt have happened i wouldnt have noticed".

But there are 3 things that happened so far in my life i simply dont have an explanation for. And since ive been there myself i know its true.
