Why GFY will change

Now that GFY is a part of a publically traded corporation things will change here. Playboy will not want to be held liable for criminal or illegal activities which will required GFY to qualify every member. Trolls, your days are numbered.

Doctor Dre 09-24-2005 10:02 AM

I somehow doubt that in a near future atl east

Good point.

I've mentioned it on here a number of times. I've worked for a guy who was able to sucessfully shut up trolls on message boards via the court system.

When the owners of the boards didn't do enough to stop it, they sued them so the board finally banned al discussion of that site period.

djroof 09-24-2005 10:05 AM

hmmmm we will see in future....

Why didn't they just ban the guy who sued them

pradaboy 09-24-2005 10:13 AM

We can only hope so

? what? LOL

Why would they ban the guy who sued them?
That wouldn't stop the libelous discussion, and if they continued to allow it they would have been liable.

The guy I worked for wasn't the most upstanding individual.

But people were going on AuctionWatch.Com which was a big auction industry board years ago and saying all kinds of things.

Calling him a crook etc.

He sued not only some of the posters, in particular tracked a woman down in Phoenix and her sister in Fort Worth through private detectives..but when they went "anonymous he sued AuctionWatch and they banned discussion of the man and his site from then on.

From my days at CMGi, there is plenty of case law on the subject in the Virginia District of Federal Court. I was invoved with a few stockmarket message boards that had to be shut down or heavily moderated once the lawsuits started. Public companies are very easy targets - they can't afford too much negative press.

Yeah I remember the whole Yahoo thing.

People just don't quite get it, it can be stopped.

Sylver7 09-24-2005 10:32 AM

I'd suspect it would be sold with the high page views it currently has before they ran it into the ground with heavy moderation.

It has already been sold.

Furious_Male 09-24-2005 10:34 AM

I have a feeling this board will change in a huge way.

i actually think they will leave GFY as it and it was one of the reasons they purchased the whole company.
they are hoping the GFY name will bring them more recognition if you ask me.

hahahaha!!!

Playboy is hoping the "GFY name" will bring them more recognition?

:1orglaugh

Azoy? 09-24-2005 10:45 AM

i didn't mean it in terms of name recognition but more webmasters being affiliated with them as well as it's a huge brand name the GFY board so it can only add to their overall empire.

I believe Playboy has hit a cap when it comes to softcore. A better bet is to move hardcore towards the mainstream through multiple distribution channels - web, cable, cell. Playboy's core web group isn't as strong as it should be which is why they partnered up with Lensman a couple of years ago. Cinemaplay brand content (Reality Cash) will save Playboy's cable channels a bunch of money. Playboy doesn't produce enough hardcore content. Lensman is a much better partner compared to many in the San Fernando Valley. He is an outsider that can produce content at the same level and quantities as the less socially palatable producers. Lensman's image can cut it on NYSE, not Anabolic or Red Light District.

Playboy's next move is to buy New Frontier or Private.

I hardly think changing a message board will be one of their top priorities..it will probably be left the way it is

I am not saying what will happen now but what will happen later. Playboy will do nothing until they start losing money because litigation. So, you are correct. I am just having fun talking about the future.

Pete-KT 09-24-2005 11:15 AM

GFY will only become a better place without the surfers

Ace_luffy 09-24-2005 11:22 AM

i dont like merging company....

sir lens.... why .?

Donny 09-24-2005 11:33 AM

And what would you say about all the Yahoo boards?

Joesho 09-24-2005 11:36 AM

I agree, I think sutble changes will begin, then wham one day the place will be much different. no fucking way playboy goes and leaves a thread up allowing someon to call someone else a PEDO or many of the other juvenile things that take place here.

I think the anons will still be around, and I think that it will still be a non rescource based industry chatboard like the social lounge it is currently. But i too suspect that image and coporate public partners along with new legistaltion that we all know is heading our way sooner or later will dictate that Playboy will do what is best for the playboy Brand in the end, and n ot the GFY brand that all the GFY'ers think is their first concern.

But I think they made a great Move in getting Lensman on board with them as he has proven to be a very smart guy in this arena, but since his income is not directly related to GFY anymore i dont think it will ultimatly be his top priority either, i think he is smart enough to go with the money and I think that is in other directions from tis point forward..

I look forward to doing lunch with you soon GiorgioXo

BlackCrayon 09-24-2005 11:48 AM

yeah i worry about censorship too. i can't see this place staying the same. i also worry about this being the start of this biz going corporate.

Joesho 09-24-2005 04:42 PM

Not to mention the underage kids that come around here too. I am sure that will have to come to a screaching halt once it is figured out by playboy coporate. and certainly by the share holders .

I for one welcome the changes though, and I look forward to the positive direction that things will be heading in.

Who do you think they will go after ? I suspect Private for the hardcore content. Then again they might New Frontier for the cable channels and use it as a media outlet for advertising dollars.
What do you think ?
