ironically, now that i have moved from Canada to "the land of the free and the home of the brave" i need to protect myself with a gun... go figure

anyhow, what are the requirements?

StickyGreen 09-22-2005 09:55 PM

bringer 09-22-2005 09:55 PM

StickyGreen 09-22-2005 09:57 PM

so if your fingerprints are on file is that a problem? or they just do it to match your prints with the gun?

You still don't need a gun to live you day to day life.

But if you do buy one i hope that when you do buy you only take it out to clean and never comes a situation where you need to use it.

Easton 09-22-2005 10:06 PM

god bless: "Arizona is an open carry state-- it is legal to carry a holstered or cased loaded handgun (visibly) in your car"

very true. if you've never handled or owned a weapon of your own your best bet is to goto a gun club and take safetly classes. give these people a call http://www.scottsdalegunclub.com
they offer free classes

purity 09-22-2005 10:09 PM

Its actually depends on the state you live in. never had to do finger prints, just a BG check. I suggest purchasing at Gun Expo b/c alot of stores require registration.IL= up to 30 day wait for a FOID card(must have to purchase a gun) 24 hours waiting for a rifle/shotgun and in its 3 days wait for a handgun

NRA-ILA

State Gun Waiting Laws

I can make it in under three hours, never timed it do, and never went straight to the border, always made stops in San Diego.

But I didnt necessary mean "closer" in distance terms. Look at the races of people around Los Angeles. Not being racisit or sterotipical, but if anyone needed a gun, it would be someone in my area. :)

sperbonzo 09-22-2005 10:24 PM

By the way. "land of the free, home of the brave" means that you take responsibility for you actions, and your protection. You don't have to wait for a half an hour for a cop to show up.

It's just a whole different mindset.

In the US, we expect to take care of ourselves, and fuck the government. In Canada and other EU type governments, the state is your big daddy that protects you and controls you.

I predict this thread to go downhill from here on out.

Easton 09-22-2005 10:27 PM

funny how she considers that "freedom"... hence my need for a gun

Your girlfriend needs her head checked. Its not all as bad as people make it seem down here. This isnt the early 1800s, its not the wild west anymore. :winkwink:

mikesouth 09-22-2005 10:31 PM

heres the scoop Its a state thing so theres nothing required in most states to buy a rifle or a shotgun

some states require fingerprints most states have some sort of requirement for handguns

full autos (machine guns) are NOT illegal in most states they just require a lot of hoop jumping to own one legally.

smack 09-22-2005 10:36 PM

it differs from state to state. go check out www.packing.org or your local state website.

:thumbsup

I think most states , you can walk in and get a .22 rifle instantly, but handguns usually have a background check on them.

Easton 09-22-2005 10:42 PM

thanks for the feedback guys!

spunkmaster 09-22-2005 10:47 PM

FYI: Buying just about any gun from a private party doesn't require any permits or background checks etc. in just about every state.

If you want to carry a conceled handgun you'll need to get a permit and go through the checks like finger prints, background check, 10 day waiting period etc...

Ray Nagin 09-22-2005 10:50 PM

is it hard for illegal aliens to get a gun in the US ?

Redrob 09-22-2005 10:50 PM

If you get a gun, join the NRA and get a lot of information on your rights and local laws.

Easton 09-22-2005 10:59 PM

again, thanks for the info guys... bookmarking this thread now :)
