i just stepped outside earlier and i was like WTF? reminded me of the seen in WOTW when Tom and that kid were checking out "that funny storm cloud". |
So that's what it was?!?!
We pulled over cause the lights in the sky we're so beautiful. I was lucky enough to be close to an mountain area where it was completely dark with hardly any street lights. The visual was unbelieveable. I had no idea what it was at the time, but i wish to god i would have recorded it. It looked like a comet. But one thing that was amazing is how long the trail stayed glowing in the sky for. We sat there for about 25 minutes after that fact and the trail was still glowing and lighting up the sky. |

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE ? A rocket carrying a military research satellite blasted off Thursday, dazzling spectators from California to Arizona with a rainbow of colors as it streaked across the sky at dusk.
The Minotaur rocket carrying a DARPA payload launched into orbit at 7:24 p.m. from Vandenberg Air Force Base, said Maj. Todd Fleming. DARPA is the research and development arm of the Pentagon. The 920-pound "Streak" payload will stay in orbit for a year, gathering information about the Earth's environment in low orbit. The mission's cost is classified. The payload was so named because of the streaking movement it makes across the sky. After blastoff, the rocket ? made from decommissioned first and second stages of a Minuteman 2 missile ? tracked over the Pacific. "It was just bright, bright white. I've never seen anything like that," said Ken Baker, who was driving along California's Pacific Coast Highway from El Segundo to Manhattan Beach when he saw the rocket streaking across the night sky. "It almost looked like a laser, it was so bright," Baker told The Associated Press. People throughout Central and Southern California and parts of Arizona also reported seeing the launch. To some, the rocket's contrail produced a swirl of red, green, blue and yellow as the rays of the sun, which had already set, reflected off it as it raced into the sky. |
thats a badass pic did you take that?

Just seen this about 45 minutes to 1 hr ago...
It looked almost like an airplane traveling across the sky except it threw off alot of exhaust "smoke" The amazing thing was after we found out what it was, was the fact that the "object" appeared so close. |
thanks for the pic been looking for 10 minutes grr.. very cool shit.

I saw it as it happened.
It looked like an airplane spraying something with a bright white light shining from it's rear, like a sky writer with a high beam tail light. It shot across the sky and at the end the light turned off for a second, then when it came back on it left a big round cloud then it turned th light off again and disappeared in the sky. It was super cool to watch as it happened. I knew it wasn't alien, you can see it was a jet or a missle or something. I still screamed out loud with my arms stretched open "take me!" Just in case it was alien. |
yup.........
|
That was coool.
|
It was visible in Vegas too.. on the news even just looked like a weird cloud from where I am but apparently in other parts of the valley people also thought it was a UFO
|
I saw that on the coast in San Diego looked cool but went away before i could get my camera.

I saw it too, while driving on the 101. The damn thing was beautiful and almost caused a massive pile-up. Lots of cars were pulling off to the side to watch. I didn't pull off, but I did hang up the phone, turn the radio off, and put down my sandwich so I could enjoy it!

It looks similar to the Aurora Borealis. Probably a rare thing in Cali
