I'm tired of watching movies on my monitor and want to watch it instead on my big TV. What devices do I need to buy make it happen. I prefer if it's wireless.

Kard63 09-22-2005 05:14 PM

outputting it from yoru video card would be easiest.

edit: I didnt see the wireless comment. burn it to disc, lol.

StickyGreen 09-22-2005 05:14 PM

it's that simple cable that goes out from your comp and has red and white connectors on the other end...

sixxxthsense 09-22-2005 05:15 PM

or a burner would do!!!!

tranza 09-22-2005 05:15 PM

Burn it to a CD?

StickyGreen 09-22-2005 05:16 PM

your dvd player would have to be able to read your burnt dvds, some don't...

Use a modified xbox. It can read any file format.

buy one that does.
the philips is like $40
also.. get a handful of avi's/mpgs together and burn them to a dvd+/-r instead..
unless you don't mind going through cd-r's like water.

price seems to have gone up like $10-$20 since I got mine...

evildick 09-22-2005 05:28 PM

Any of my ATI cards that have had NTSC output usually don't display video files out to the TV unless you turn video acceleration off, which you don't want to do.

Personally, I have my modded xbox networked to my PC so I just fire up windows media center on the xbox and I can browse all the media on my PC hard drive, (pics, MP3's, video, etc.)

yes.. but as i said.. dvd-rs are just as cheap and hold a lot more shit..
which can come in handy when your avi is just a tad long and doesn't quite fit onto a cdr.. (happens quite often with full movies and such)

pubenemy 09-22-2005 05:32 PM

I have the phillips dvd player, works good on divx etc.

plus don't you need the actual Media Center version of XP?
don't know if that's an upgrade/crossgrade or what compared to regular XP..
but looks like it's a requirement.

plus there's other things that do this.. but if i remember correctly they did it poorly.

Anyone know an alternative to the Linksys Dual Band Wireless A/G Media Centre?

MattO 09-23-2005 04:41 PM

I've got the linksys media center thing, and it's pretty nice. You just run a little server app on your windows box and tell it what directories to share.
Saves a lot on not having to burn tons of discs.

edit: actually the one I have is different from the one posted above

I bought a S-Video to A/V cable, tried to connect it in my video card but couldn't see any image on the TV. I spent a few long minutes doing this and reading the video card manual, then I put the cable away and forgot about it. :Oh crap

I'll try again when I'm very relaxed.

zzgundamnzz 09-23-2005 05:01 PM

Just convert the format of the AVI to be readable on a regular DVD player.

High-Definition Wireless Media Player with Progressive Scan DVD

That's what I use, and it even plays WMV9 HD and Divx HD. The others don't, or didn't a few months ago when I got this one.

Nice Toy!

Could also wait for next generation TV like the one HP came out with.
Not sure about buying and HP TV though...but more manufactures are planning this most likely.

Lite-On DVD-R/RW Drive ~ $45

Problem solved...

Alex 09-24-2005 03:24 PM

burn it in its regular .wmv or .mpg format and plop it on your dvd player.

Great quality no need for a dvd burner.

Get the terapin DVD player, it plays every format possible.
http://www.terapintech.com/index.php

Its $40 at any store.
