A fun riddle
 

This riddle must be done IN YOUR HEAD and NOT using paper and a pen. Try it!

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000.

Now add 30. And another 1000.

Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.

What is the total?

Please don't cheat. :)

After you think you have it right, grab a calculator and see if you are

Ahhh, yes. In your head you're adding the smaller 40+30, etc. and in the background you're also adding the big 1000's. So when you total up you think that the smaller numbers add up to an additional 1000, but in fact they only add to 100 ...... so 4100 is the answer

they asked that in defensive driving school and I was the only one who got it right in 5 years. got my defenses up once the guy said it was going to be a trick question.
