How fast can you run a mile on a tredmill?

Damn I'm slow. Not that I ever work out or move too much. How long should it take a couch potato to run a mile ?

After Shock Media 09-21-2005 11:44 AM

Not used to running, then I would estimate 8 minutes.

i dont like the treadmill...

fastest i ever ran a mile was 5:35 when i was in 6th grade i believe...

i tried last summer and ran it in 5:45 after training for a little bit.

get a PRECOR

look it up in google, they are by far THE BEST home runners imo.

3 minutes with a skateboard.

EroticySteve 09-21-2005 11:59 AM

According to the spedometer in my SUV I could do two miles in one minute. Not bad.

Dont know, I usually set the tredmill speed to 3.5MPH
Do the math...

What do you guys walk/run on?

tristan_D 09-21-2005 06:33 PM

I can't remember. I have not hit the tredmill for a long time now. Maybe about time to take a run.

MikeVega 09-21-2005 07:07 PM

on a 30 min run i do a little over 4 miles so i guess about 7 1/2 mins a mile ..

BlueWire 09-21-2005 08:07 PM

If you're a serious couch potato i'd pay money to see you actually make an 8 minute mile. Not that its impressive AT ALL....but if you're seriously out of shape you'll die if u try to run an 8 minute mile.

I gave up running a while ago, too much impact, especially after watching my Father go through two knee replacements due to jogging when he was my age.

Now I "run" on one of those gay Ellipse machines, and it's not half bad.

Have treadmills gotten any better for reducing impact, maybe through padded belts or some other technique? Haven't been on one in years.

Abbie Bueller 09-21-2005 08:24 PM

Max speed on most treadmills is 10 mph. I can run that and do a mile in just a few seconds over 6 minutes (it takes a few seconds for it to get up to that speed so you it's not instant-on at 10mph).

I'm ready to die after I stop, however.

Spunky 09-21-2005 08:26 PM

I guess I'm slow..about 9 minutes

Patrick_Bateman 09-21-2005 08:34 PM

75 mph :winkwink:

Babagirls 09-21-2005 08:37 PM

8-9 mins i would guess, and i do cardio 3 times a week for 60 mins each.
(its hard to run with DD's lol) :(

I am a serious couch potato. I walk to burn caories but I am certainly not physically fit. I thought I'd do it in 8 and it took 10 and a half. I'm gonna get it to 8.

Eliptical 45 min a day here.

Can't handle the treadmill. I'm 6'1" 195lbs and it still puts too much stress on my knees.

But when I did do the treadmill it was like 7min

KMR Stitch 09-21-2005 09:33 PM

Wow, a lot of Super fit people on GFY.

I run at an 8 min mile pace. Max I did was 3 miles Sprinting though is something else.

I did the 440 in 1:32
